just wanted to give you guys a headsup about this.
Comptia certifications (A+, Network+, Security+) are kinda considered the community collage diplomas for entry level IT jobs. One benifit of Comptia certs is that they are lifetime... you study the material, pay between $100-@200 for the test, pass it and you have a certification that is one little line you can add to your IT resume ![]() a few weeks ago Comptia announced that some of their most popular certifications (A+, Network+, Security+) are going to in fact expire every 3 years unless the certified person pays annual fees or continues taking further tests every year. peoples on the internet raged, they signed up for "lifetime certifications" and were pretty pissed that comptia was gooing to retroactively require cashmonies or commitment to keep those certifications valid. then a couple weeks later comptia gave a little. if you get A+, Network+, or Security+ before the beginning of 2011 they will still be lifetime certifications personally i think it is still just a bluff. one reason comptia certs are somewhat popular is because people get them and are able to keep that bullet point on their resume for years (or decades). the moment they quit being lifetime then they become just another short-term expiring certification and thus, ironically, they cease being relevant. So personally i think that it would not make very good business sense for comptia to change their certifications to expiring but this announcement will create a flood of people wanting to take tests in 2010 before "the new rules kick in" I already have my A+ and Network+, and will be getting my Security+ this year. if anyone is wanting to get into the tech filed I would suggest picking up some of these this year. If your collage or job will pay for the test cost then definitely go for it ![]() |
