I have a
virus that uses my computer to send spam email from my email account. It is the \"W32.Netsky.B@mm\" virus. I used Panda Anti Virus to try and get rid of it, only it never took care of it for some reason. I so Norton Anti Virus covers it, so I tried to download NAV, but when it was unzipping it was telling me the files couldn\'t be uncompressed. Then I tried \"Sting\" from Network Associates. Whenever I run it, it sits forever on one certain file (which probably has a virus) but it doesn\'t do anything about it. I can leave it for an hour, and I come back, the thing isn\'t doing any scanning or hasn\'t stung any virus. Anyone who knows about this stuff, I\'d appreciate help getting W32.Netsky.B@mm off my pc. Do
you have winzip or another good decompressor? I think there are about 20 versions of the virus, so you might have to be sure which you are dealing with. You can google your way to an individual fix, if that\'s really what you have. I had a similar problem, but I think NAV got rid of it. I\'m not sure Housecall can get it. |

Quote:<font class=\"post\"> That\'s pretty drastic. You end up losing a lot of important stuff that way. Some of the later viruses try to defend themselves ny making it more difficult to download fixes. Bastards are getting cleverer every day. Have somebody else download the anti virus software, unzip it and burn it onto a CD for you. A lot of public and college libraries will do that. Then run it from the CD. |

Quote:<font class=\"post\"> I have winzip but its been wierd unzipping file as I don\'t seem to alway be able to recover the file. Anyway, thanks for all your help. I ran Panda Anti Virus again, this time including my zip drive, and it seems to have made it impossible to save on the zip disk again and I also lost important inventory files. Piece of crap. As for the specific virus I had, I downloaded the removal tool for the specific virus I had (that version of it) and it didnt find squat! http://www.bitdefender .com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=194# I am wondering, should I turn off \"systems restore.\"? Problem is, if I do this, I will really dig myself in a hole if something goes wrong. The only reason whyI am worried about this harmless virus to begin with is my ICP has sent letters threatening to stop service if the spam from my IP doesn\'t stop. Having alreadly lost files crucial to the business, I don\'t care to lose anymore trying to get this f-cken virus off. But I also don\'t want my ICP to cease service. |

Quote:<font class=\"post\"> Thanks Pancho. I went to that one before and couldn\'t figure out how to use it because of my own stupidity. I am trying it now though and it seems to be work. Let\'s see if it can get anything. |

SMTP is
an e mail \"server\" that comes with the OS, it should come disabled by default (unless you are running an e mail server) but that\'s not Micro$oft\'s way. It is not an e mail \"client\" that you use (Eudora, Outlook etc. ) to send e mail. So short answer \"no\"! It should be noted that some viri come with their own SMTP servers built in. So you will definately have to get rid of the virus. If I remember properly this particular virus also is set to launch a DDOS attack against some specific sites (in Germany I think--the target has changed a couple of times) at the end of April. Good Luck!! |
