Hello.

I've been lurking on the forum for a long time, just reading...thought I'd offer you my own opinion.

Based on experience there are alot of nice normal beautiful girls. Intelligent and with looks to kill. Compared with what I've found in North America, I'd perfer a latina from the DR anyday. You'll find what you look for here. Go to some of the fun bars in Zona Colonial with an open mind or one of the few bookstores and you're bound to find someone. Most of the people i've met (i guess i've been lucky) have been beautiful, exotic and fluent. You'll be amazed at what's out there if you take the blinders off. Half the girls i've known have travelled the world more than I have.

it's funny really, because at first i thought i was in a rat hole, but once i opened myself up i realized it's a whole other world.

Most of the people that visit the DR have no idea what it's "really" like in regards to "normal" girls.

My opinion for what it is worth...

What is it you are looking for? Someone to spend time with, go dancing with, take out to dinner...... for the short term... are you looking to meet someone for potential long term?

Are you looking for a girl to show you the country from a local point of view???

Yes there are many many nice girls here! You dont' get to meet them as a tourist! They don't go where you hang out as a general rule. You meet them thru people who actually live here. And, generally speaking, we won't introduce you to nice girls unless we know what you are looking for. Why would we introduce you to our friends????

And for the most part, they have a life and real jobs. They won't be able to just go off with you when you want....

To me, in my opinion, this is the best advice given so far. I found that wherever you go in this "World" the people that truly matter you will get the opportunity to meet when your intentions are RIGHTEOUS. If and only if you are on the island to grasp at the beauty that is DR then you will meet "Nice People". I do believe the "Nice Girls" are included with those people. I hope and pray that your intentions are "Nice" because then you will find what, ultimately, is "Nice".

As if there is ever such a thing, here or in the DR. In the end, you're paying something.

Dinners, movies, drinks, shopping, taxis, whatever, all add up, here in the US much more than there in the DR, and you still might not get a happy ending??? On your vacation???

Just look at it like this: do you hang out in the tourist traps in San Francisco? Do you like talking to tourists? It just keeps going on and on. But seriously, ask yourself those questions and part of your dilemma has been resolved. One of my best friends, originally from Oklahoma, lived in the DR for only 2 years but still calls it home. What worked for him was the 'full immersion' method. He met tons of those girls that you are interested in. If you learn Spanish or at least get a good grasp of it before you come it will help alot.

Also, don't dress in an outlandish manner while you're down there. The kind of girls you have an interest in don't like crazy fashions. It doesn't mean that they don't know what are the latest styles are, they just don't like wild clothing as much as the girls here in the US do.......I will agree with what one poster said about the Latinas in DR being better than the ones here. I love them to death and they're fun to be around.....

I think it's funny that the one guy is indignant about me "wanting to get laid without paying" Like this is sleazy and paying for it is the righteous way to get laid.

If I meet someone I connect with, yes, I may want to have sex with them. If not, that's fine too. Either way, no I don't want to pay for it, except the "normal" way....drinks,dinner, etc....

I just basically wanted to make sure that I'm not going somewhere that, because of various cultural differences, people won't even give you the time of day. I've been to some of those places and, while they are sometimes still great places to go, that's not the kind of trip I'm looking for this time.
