I know this has nothing to do with the DR, but if you want to see snow, this is what's happening in Newfoundland...........

let's see: 4-1/2' snowbanks-perfect for making snowforts, snow still on the tobogganing hills, and the back-yard ice rink we started on New Year's Day is still going strong. finally this march break the kids(me) actually have something to do!!!!
mob

i always take my trips to RD in January, the 2 week dose of sunshine always makes the rest of winter much shorter.

It is only going to be 6 inches here in Woodstock NY. I didn't know it was going to snow so I went home last night in a rear wheel drive car instead of my 4x4 pick up.

I didn't go to work. Went to the bank and to the cleaners and picked up my laundry and now playing. I am thankful for the day off!

Are you near Callicoon, NY? I had 80 Acers on the Delaware River I bought from Dick Freda. His family owned the whole dam town. I also owned a Topless Joint on Route 17B, The Jade Lounge. Mostly locales and the Hunting crowd. I still have the property but my wife said the bar HAD TO GO!

I used to have too drive past the old Saugerties? farm the site of the originall Woodstock, to get to Callicoon.

What about Louie Alvarez, did he ever make Sheriff of Sullivan County??

If you know the area, e-mail me back please.
Thanks
Tim H.

I'm here in Calgary, and I've been griping, badly, the last 2 days about the snow we've received...let me tell you, it's nothing compared to what they're getting in Eastern Canada. I can now stop griping, as I don't have it so bad...it's just damn cold here.
-22 C today, -25 C tomorrow. In Fahrenheit, that translates to -7 F today, and -13 F tomorrow...I cannot wait to get to the DR! Another 34 days....

I'm back to griping again...I just heard -45 C with the windchill slated for tonight. That's a whopping -49 F! And to think, some people are lucky enough to never realize what that actually is...

like a snow storm? Those are some pretty scary photos, Trina! I can no longer whine, (wine! good idea!) after viewing those life threatening photos.

Criss, I asked my wife if she'd mind me going to SD to get out of the snow for a little while, you know, maybe meet some of the DR1 folks, check on the house etc. Being new to marriage I thought it was the right thing to do, instead of just hopping on a plane and explaining later as customary for me.

Well, after a long pause and in a voice colder than the topic of this thread, she replied "Go ahead, if it makes you happy. Don't worry about me, I can take care of myself, I'll be shopping while your gone, and you better not come home with a disease".

Oh wait, thats the "I married an American girl" format (am I going to catch flak for that? yeaaaaa!)

All in fun!

JG

cabin fever, [don't] catch it!

Now that you're talking about the snow fall in NY, I wanna add that the weather and the temperatures over the last five days have been like a rollercoaster ride! On saturday, it was mild, like in the 40's and dry. On sunday, the temperature was also in the mid 40's but it rained all day , it was very foggy and the humidity was like 100%! Then monday, the high was only 20!!! and the windchill factor made it feel in the single digits! On tuesday the high was 51! ...

This abrupt changes have made me really sick!!! I have the flu, and had to go to the doctor and I had to take yesterday and today off from work. I really wish I was in the DR with my ice cold Presidente like you said! Luckily, I have reservations for easter week to travel there!!! YOOOOOO HOOOO!!!!

Love and miss my DR!!!

LOL....j/k...oh well - though I bellyache about the snow - moreso the cold!!..I wouldn't trade my 4 seasons - I'm getting married in Oct and look forward to the warm colors of the fall.

I do think though that the cold and snow has ~sucked~ my tan out of my body.........~sigh~.......once again I'm a whitey.......

Oops!!

How I wish I were back in DR ... let's see...1021 am my time...I'd be laying at the beach most likely with a beer!!! Soon enough!

The only time I see snow is when I am on Vacation and even then after 3 days I am out of there.
I still wonder how people can live in such miserable places. A few years ago I had to go to Cleveland in february. All I kept asking myself was "Why do people live in this dump?"

Wow, I don't think I've ever met anyone else on the board from Calgary. I wish I was leaving on the 12th! We're actually going in April, but with this weather, March sounds much better!

I couldn't believe it when a friend forwarded those, Trish. I'm glad to hear you don't have so much in Truro...I was wondering about that. It made me think about how lucky we are, even if it's ass-biting cold, there's little more than enough snow to cover the ground. I don't know about you guys over there, but natural gas here is at an all-time high. Between January and February, our house gas bill more than doubled! Since it's been so cold in February, I've decided to not even go to the mailbox...I'm scared of the bill awaiting me! Remember, I've got 3 Dominicans in the house, I can assure you, they're not freezing inside the house!

Sorry to hear about the truck!
