For me it started with driving around distributing gifts for my family kids, like nephews and a few poor kids. I bought many $10 pesos gifts like water guns and dolls for about 15 poor kids. Then I ended up in a huge traffic jam near Isabel Aguiar by the rotunda where they were carrying on with the 3 Kings Parade sponsored by the Santo Domingo West City Hall. I dont know what business is of a city government spending taxpayers money on a parade like this and then some expensive fireworks, when they dont even pick up the garbage.
Believe it or not, people were still shopping on that day and there were traffic jams all over. Santo Domingo has become one traffic jam. I tried to go to the movies. See my movie post with a different theme to it. TW |

I was supposed to be back in the DR on the 4th but changed my flight due to the major storm we had here in Massachusetts. I had bought a small toy for each of my younger daughters but the suitcase they were in went ahead of time to NYC as I will stay there a couple of days before I leave with my oldest daughter as she goes to Columbia Univ. My husband had said that they go under their pillows so when they awoke they would find them. By the time I remembered last night it was too late to buy something else. So my husband is going to put something under their pillows over there [DR] so when we get back they will still get them. I am cooking a pork roast and white rice with grandules though. Have a nice day and enjoy your meal. Kathy

OH...Golo and Tony carry on the tradition of the Three Kings!!!
That is the nicest thing I've read from you too in a while!... Well, here in Miami we are celebrating the 32nd Annual Three Kings Day Parade on Sunday, Jan. 12 along the famous Calle 8...from 4th through 22nd Ave. with a music festival afterwards... The co. I work for has been putting this parade and festival together since 1970, when Castro declared no more holidays in the island... We have been having toy drives for the past month, and we are distributing the rest of the gifts for needy children during the parade... It started really small, but it has grown to over 500,000 people attending every year...with lots of floats, marching bands, the usual politicians, athletes, and best of all...real live camels and the Three Kings... This year the Grand Marshall is none other than Gilberto Santa Rosa... So if anybody is around this part of the world this weekend, you're welcome to join us...I'll be parading also in a convertible, and taking pictures...Maybe I'll post some next week... |

Being the wife of a Dominican and mother of two, I want to make sure our children are always reminded of their Latino (okay, Hispanic, if that is more politically correct) roots. My husband and I have decided to make January 6 a day of yearly celebration in our house. We've already taken down the Christmas tree because of a very busy little one-year-old, but next year we will take it down on January 6. We bought gifts for the kids to open tonight, and my husband will be preparing a delicious asado de puerco, with all the fixings. Is anyone else doing anything special tonight?
