Default More Ongtupqa (Grand Canyon) pictures

dried flowers

garnet enjoying view with binoculars

canyon rim trail markers. biking isn't allowed on the trail for a
variety of reasons; besides there needing to be too much
maintenance needed and traffic along the paths, the trail goes
very close to the rim edge at many points, and if someone were
momentarily distracted while biking, they could easily pedal on
over the edge

another viewing point across the gulf; can see tiny cars on other side

another viewing point

signs explain the history of this closed uranium mine; during ww2
much was mined from here, but now there are concerns about
radioactive contamination of the water

juniper berries; only growing on the side away from the sun on this tree

mules used for packing down into the canyon trails

at the furthest easternmost viewing point on the grand canyon rim
trail, there is a building an artist designed that has a stone tower. I
took this merged group from the viewing platform. here the canyon
heads north and new high plains country begins

just to the east of the last merged group was this old volcanic plug

one more bluebird or jay picture

I have lots of canyon pictures, but these are probably the best examples

Ah, that brought back memories. You are very luck to have a half decent shot of the bluejay. I tried and tired and tired but they never sat still long enough. My Nov 2011 trip to the Grand Canyon was mind blowing. Most amazing thing I've seen thus far. Definitely worth the price of the airline tickets across the Atlantic (and 25 hours trapped on the plane from Johannesburg).

Charles, what a wonderful trip. I have been to the rim twice in my life, but never to the cayon floor. Your photos are great, it is hard to photograph the Grand Canyon, it is just too big.

I think Stellar's jay is the name of your blue bird.
