I'm also new around here and don't know your back story. Could you give us the abridged version or point us to a thread?

Default "Not so fast!"... Sayeth The State
Well Thanksgiving was a real turkey as I found out yesterday I was denied clemency by my wonderful Governor. So the process will begin again on Monday with refiling and hopefully another shot next April.

I am sad to say that I miss Rod Blagojevich....if I would have gotten my petition in when he was still in office I'd be an upstanding citizen today...lol

Try Try again.....

I guess it is just proof positive that the responses we have to cheating(along with the actions of the cheater) will have longer lasting effects in some cases than we can ever imagine.

3 or 4 years ago I would have been devastated with the denial of clemency. But I think even though I don't post here much anymore, and came here for an entirely different reason I learned enough through the wise counsel of the senior members here that it kind of prepared me for this eventuality. Had I never had a place to vent I would have never been mentally in a place to accept it and try again.

I am sorry, your story is proof of how heartbreaking cheating is and the effects it has on others, I will continue to have faith one day your wish is going to happen for you.

Long story short...this happened to me in 1988. Well long before the internet days so when I came here in 2008 I came for an totally different reason.
March of 1988 I was 3 weeks from getting married and happened to arrive home early from work to witness my fiance having sex in my bed with one of my friends. Suffice it to say the horrific choices I made in those few moments cost me 4 years in prison. I'm not very proud of what I did and had a long time to think about it in Joliet.
When I got out in 1992 I had to start over and attempt to rebuild my life. It didn't help that at the outset I struggled with crack cocaine and alcoholism through most of the 90's. But I was able to pull myself together and have been clean and sober now for well over a decade. In that time I put myself through both undergraduate and graduate school working 2, sometimes low paying jobs at a time but because of being a felon securing well paying work upon attaining my degrees was next to impossible. One of my History professors took me under his wing and brought me into his side business, which is loaning historical film from his vast archives to television networks. Stuff you would see on The History Channel or other documentaries from time to time back in the days before that network caved and started putting out nonsense pseudo reality tv. Basically a lot of WW2 battle footage that he had secured ownership rights to over the years.
When he retired from teaching he brought me in as a full partner in the business and about 6 years ago he retired and I was able to buy the Lion's share of his film archive and have been doing business on my own ever since.
The thing that always held me back all these years has been my criminal record as a result of what I did, and decided to attempt a few years ago to try to get Clemency or a Gubernatorial pardon based on what I had accomplished since I got out of prison.
The State's Attorney who prosecuted me had since been elected a circuit judge and I made a bold move and personally met with him and told him what I was attempting to do. To my surprise he not only did not object, but actually signed a letter on my behalf in order to help me.
However the Prisoner Review Board did not see it that way the first time. So I was denied the first time around by the PRB. This last time I played a little Illinois politics and made some more allies and made it past the PRB with a recommendation that I be granted Executive Clemency. My case made the Governor's desk, but he refused to sign it.
To say I was crestfallen would be an understatement. It took me a boatload of money to get as far as a I did, but I am not sure that I can get the money together for another try ( I can reapply again in April and would have to go through the whole process a third time) nor am I sure that if I got rejected again if I would lose my sanity. So that is my conundrum.

Sorry to hear you that things aren't going the way you need them to. Don't give up. I know it is hard(I can't even imagine how hard) but I believe that you are strong enough to endure.

Sorry if I don't know the whole story, but what is the clemency for? Are you facing prison time for something?

When I walked in on my fiance and my "friend" having sex in my bed I flipped out, grabbed her by the hair and tore her off him and then kicked him in the head and crotch repeatedly even after he was unconscious. I did not hit my fiance but she ran out of the house naked and got to the neighbors house and called 911. The cops arrived and I was arrested. Like I said before, I absolutely deserved to go to jail for it. So that is why when people talk about taking physical revenge on their wayward or OM/OW I cringe because I never want anyone to do what I did. I was driven by pure rage at walking in on the act.

Well maybe your "friend" will think twice before screwing a buddy's fiance next time. Not condoning the violence either, but maybe he needed that.

I always say if I caught someone in my house with my gf/wife, I am completely within my rights to put him in a sleeper hold, drag him downstairs, and throw him out the front door.

And then I'd go back upstairs and escort my so-called "woman" out.

You sure are not kidding. Things I'd have never imagined I ever would have to deal with have been quite a reminder. Things like getting loans of any kind, housing, even doing business with some clients(TV networks have a tendency to want to run background checks at times if they are just wanting a little piece of film, obviously to protect themselves from lawsuits in case a piece of film they have obtained had copyright issues or perhaps even stolen property).

But currently I am taking things in stride and press forward. It is all I can do
