Default No Jazz for Live Nation
What has the world's largest producer of live concerts done for you lately?

---

"We're doing everything we can to eliminate jazz from American culture, so no jazz!" Mike Luba of Live Nation Artists told commissioners, eliciting a few "boos" from the audience.

I agree. I never understood that 'music' anyhow. Sounds like a bunch of people practicing at the same time on stage.

That, by the way, was sarcasm.

So is this(just in case): Live Nation's decision on not having any Jazz is a good one as we all know that Jazz provokes good people to lower their moral standards and drink alcohol and take illegal drugs and have sex......also it promotes mixing of the races! Rock on Live Nation!

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking around for awhile and figure this is a good place for my first post.

Maybe its because I'm new to jazz (or I've just missed the point), but I don't really get this. I would never really expect jazz to be played in a concert series made famous by rockers, but was Luba guy serious (i.e. actually against jazz) or just being sarcastic (i.e. commenting on the fact that jazz isn't as popular as the other genres)?

Julian, he said something quite a bit more poignant than that.

He said "We're doing everything we can to eliminate jazz from American culture". A little different.

But I too think he was being tongue in cheek. Especially since that has already been the case since about 1975. (medium sarcasm)

"The elimination of jazz from American culture" .
I don't think he got to his position being so ignorant.

He may have made such a provocative statement to pre-empt the need to turn down the incredible response he would get from musicians who may feel entitiled to play at the concert because it's "jazz" friendly. Ask any jazz club owner how many college jazz students they have to turn away on a weekly basis... A boycot rather than an open call would slam that door shut.
