"We are not talking about a national ID card. We are not talking about a government-controlled system. What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy, and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities,"

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that. Outright refusal from me.

You have to admit; the government is the master of doublespeak:

"No no no, we are not going to fuck you. We are going to merely insert this barbed cylindrical device into your orifice. This is really for your own good. Trust us."

they already have this for 99% of the population. only 1% of people on the planet are smart enough to use proxies, mac id changers, etc. i mean, i know how to do it, and i don't even bother anymore. this is just to make it stupid simple for them so that taco bell types can do the work instead of people with a higher iq. they already know now. in 1997 or so i could sit in a room and tell what everyone at my isp was looking at in realtime. don't kid yourself, they already know everything.

This is different though. What will the consequences be if you get caught evading their system? Why are you the only one without a valid ID? Imagine if you were to provide a fake driver's license to someone, for example.

they'll make it so that you can't get on without an id. no internet for you without an id. everytime you try to establish a connection, you'll need this id number in your network settings or whatever.

i'm just saying, people will be paranoid and avoid the net because of it, but in reality, you might as well just get one, because it's the same thing as right now. they already know everything you've ever looked at or will look at even without this. this is just bread and circuses imho.

OK, see, now this thread could have been titled "And so it begins . . ." or something dramatic like that. This is awful news.

chad
, I am with you, they already know everything we read, write, watch and listen to. This internet id business is going to be a major issue for the people who really speak out . . . or dig deep. I don't see this ending well for what's left of "Free Speech".
