Default How to use the Search Function
I have figured this thing out, and it works nicely.

First of all, the default settings take you to the "Search Multiple Content Types" search page, and the default selections are all blank, so if you enter a word and hit search, it will search in the areas you specified only. That is why people are not getting results back, because no areas are selected by default, so it searches in None of the areas.

So at the top on the left, I click the "All types" box.

That's a lot of work when you can just go to google and type: "hook nose" site:gold-silver.us

It's not after the first time you set up your preferences.

Then it's just Advanced search, Single content, enter keyword.

Perfect!

Search Type: Posts
Show Results as: Posts
Save Prefs

That's all you really need to change to make it work perfectly!

Skeptic here...
so, if this is so darned easy, and friendly, why hasn't John Q posted this as the "solution" instead of ignoring the multiple supplicants who HATE this search function, and have given up?

WTF? Why would you even bother writing all of that? Why wouldn't you just try the method?

...jeeze...

I entered a search for "Bible" by "Beefsteak" and 15 results.
