Default New keyboard....
Well, my old keyboard was causing me some grief... the spacebar would sometimes simply not work, causing me to run words together. I'd had this particular IBM keyboard since the mid 1990's, and had used it with at least four different computers. If I had a dollar for every character I had typed on that old keyboard, I'd fly every one of you here for a beach party, along with some great Mexican food, AND I'd fill up your gas tanks when you got back home!!

I never saw the need for a "Windows key" and I really liked the tactile-feedback and the audible "click" of this old keyboard . I got a new Logitech "Classic Corded Keyboard" for the low price of $9.95 on sale at the local CompUSA. I'm not sure if I like it or not... the backspace key is tiny, and there's that "windows key" that I haven't found a use for yet... plus it just feels "mushy" to me. I looked at several different styles, and other than the silly wavy placement of the keys or separating the right and left hands by a few inches, they were all the same. All had that imprecise "soft" feel to them.

I took the old 'board out to the garage and blew a lot of dust and junk out of it with the air compressor. I turned it over and read the label... part number 42H1292... made 04/06/94 serial # blah blah... then the surprise--

What d'ya know?... it was made by IBM/UK in Greenock, Scotland, UK.!!

Well done Scotland!

I'm going to take some advice I was given and and dunk the old keyboard in a tub of water, slosh it around for a few minutes and then blow-dry it. I've been told that this process will either fix it or kill it for good.

Perhaps I can find a place that has some old inventory and is still selling the old IBM click-type keyboards.

I don't know if I can ever get accustomed to this new one.
