You never really apreciate Toyota until it comes time to buy a car, then you can realise why they sell so well. Cheap, safe, relaible. Their forumla is basicly unmatched. Well for me anyway.
I say a 1998 Camry would be a safe bet. But your choice man, so good luck

Congrats mate. I dunno about the U.S, but insurance for people my age is pretty steep in Australia, so good luck!

Fairly expensive as well in the US. Given the inexperience factor, age risks, and others, insurance rates here aren't cheap. And, it also depends on the type of car insured, which could easily cost a leg and an arm over the duration of the premium (generally 6 months or a year).

Good luck. Keep in mind driving is a privilege, not a right - I learned it the hard way

There's plenty of mid to late 90s Hondas and Toyotas in that range. As a first car those would be safe and reliable picks.
Don't go picking up an early 90s 3er or an older Jetta or something like that... you'll most likely regret it.

If I had a kid getting his license, I'd buy a retired Crown Vic police car. Lots of crush space. A 1975 Lincoln Town Car would be even better. Even better than that would be a "Cadavillac"!
