Nah, we could get up and walk around, sit in the showroom floor cars, my wife at one point went out and actually got her first in-depth look at the car, etc, and once we realized that something seemed hinky that's exactly what we did.
Everything else was enjoyable, almost exactly like your experience. We'd ask for a lower price, he'd come back with a slightly lower cost, I offered the truck up as a trade-in once (we eventually took it out), and eventually hounded him to take the alarm system out (Asked for it to be taken out, he said it couldn't be taken out, I took him to the car and pointed out the paper with the list of dealership-installed items and it clearly said "Optional" next to the alarm. It became probably the most heated argument of the night before he finally said "OK, OK, OK, it's out!!!") BTW, his problem was exactly what your dealer's problem was... it was more of a hassle to remove then make us just pay more, but they weren't willing to negotiate any lower.
trust me, it was mostly relaxed, calm, exactly as you described your experience, up until those last couple hundred bucks, I've been through worse
