Default Dad needs to Downsize!
My dad was complaining today at the gas pump. It costs him 650$ to drive per month.SO He needs something:
Good on Gas,
Able to pull 500Lbs
Under 25,000 Canadian
Reliable.
And needs to hold a bit.
He likes the HHR,And I do too.
What do you guys suggest?

Nissan Frontier, I have a 2000 4 banger and it works great for hauling about our 650 lb hobicat... Or taking half of our broken fence to the dump..., though it still only gets around 20 MPG
If you want enclosed spce get a shell :P

Do you have the rear cover plastic on the back? Those Nissan's are known to be rust buckets. You can't even take the rear lights out without taking the cover off, then ou find out about all the rust that it hides.

Have you seen the Toyota Tacoma? It offers very good MPG on it's 4cyl but not that powerful. The V6 is also very good on gas and offers more power to haul. You can get a 4cyl for $16,000 US. And the thing looks freekin' hot.
If you need more towing power then go to the Dodge Dakota. Even the 6 cyl can drag another pickup. But they are a little more expensive. I think the Dakota is sharper inside and less noisy then the Toyota pickup. Something I always thought Toyota was the best at, in cars anyway.

I see your family is still brand loyal to only domestic companies At least go to a Toyota/Honda/Nissan (etc.) dealer and look at their vehicles. You don't have to buy one, but should still get a first-hand look at their products. It's better to like a vehicle for what it offers than to hate a vehicle based on who made it. That's why I still don't mind domestic-brands.
As for vehicles you might want to look at, go ahead and check out the HHR. It looks like a cool vehicle.
By the way, aren't all cars made to tow at least 500 pounds?

Truely, if he does not need a truck and wants something along the lines of an HHR, I would say get a Mazda3. It competes against the HHR and is really the better vehicle of the two. If that is a no-go because of it being a Mazda, remind him of Ford's stake in Mazda, since you and him seem to like Ford so much.

Here they are practically giving away Mazda6 Wagons, they can hold a good amount of cargo in the back and still is a good driver.

Efficiency Carmatt, we're all recommending cars which get 20MPG or less.
Beyond that, it sounds like they want a big-name American-made car. HHR sounds like the best for you, I can't think of anything better by Ford, and I don't suppose he's considering the PT Cruiser . then there is the Calliber, but it's not here yet.

Dunno, I've seen a pic of a 300C wagon so I thought that was only in USA... Oh well... I'm sure most of those overpowered tin cans with cupholders you like will make you happy lol j/k
Hmmm american, good in size... erm... yeah hell, get a Jeep Liberty then.

yanksrule26 is correct, 300c wagon is not sold in NA, although it is available in europe, i believe. The closest thing I can think of is the magnum.
