You will find that in most large western european cities you will be reasonably safe. That doesn't mean that you should go looking for bad parts of town though. You will also find that in cities that see a great deal of people from many countries (with the glaring exception of Paris) a great many people have a working knowledge of english. This is particularly true of tourist areas. |

I like Belgium. It has the only totally lit highway network in the world (visible from space, but only at night). Good beer, very excellent food, nice people. I prefer the Flemish to the Walloons, but then I can speak dutch with them, so...
BTW, did you know that Marvin Gaye spent a couple of years in Ostend (seaside town in northern B) and wrote Sexual healing there, before returning home to get shot by his dad. Tourist attractions: Waterloo monument (lots of steps), Manneke Pis, Atomium. That's about it. If you're really bored; France, The Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg are very, very close. |
