Default New Apple iBooks and Mac minis
When my aunt said she bought an iBook, I was waiting for this to happen (somehow, whenever she buys stuff, a successor product is released within a month).
New iBook:
- Built in Airport Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0
- Scrolling touchpad
- Sudden Motion Detector
- 512 MB RAM on all models
- Still G4
- 2 models: 12 in./1.33 GHz/40 GB/Combo Drive/$999 and 14 in./1.42 GHz/60 GB/SuperDrive/$1299
New Mac Mini
- 512 MB RAM on all models
- Built-in Airport Extreme and Bluetooth (not 2.0) except on $499 model
- 3 models: 1.25 GHz/40 GB/Combo Drive/$499, 1.42 GHz/80 GB/Combo Drive/$599, and 1.42 GHz/80 GB/SuperDrive/$699

Actually, IBM has unveiled low-voltage and dual-core G5 proccessors.
Thus, we can expect revised PowerMacs and new Powerbook G5s before MacTels arrive.

The START of the Mactel shift (laptops will get the chips b4 desktops, because IBM never figured out how to get a G5 into a laptop) is still about a year off. Should be a big leap in performance, especially when the chips make their way to the iBook line, but a year is a very long time in technology terms.
Most people here know I'm an Apple loyalist, but these updates are terrible. The mini should have had 512MB when it came out, so now it is where it should have been months ago. Leaving off optical audio is pathetic, but they probably did it to push Airport Express sales. (Can't blame them too much - the AEX is probably the coolest gadget I own right now.) The improvements to the iBook line are alright but overdue. And it is still too heavy and the current design is getting really old. Basically they are keeping it from its full potential so that it doesn't steal 12" PowerBook sales.

Not exactly. All computers have a processor. Intel is one of several companies that makes processors. Right now Apple uses processors from a different companies in Macs. Soon, they will be switching to Intel's processors.

I'm sure the dual-core G5's will end up in the PowerMac line. The low-voltage chip has finally been announced, it will still be some time before it is ready for mass-production. I highly doubt it will ever see the light of day in the PowerBook line. Mac mini seems like a more reasonable candidate.

Yeah, so it's just Mac's version of Intel?
