Default Does anyone here have experience performing maitenance work
I bought my 2nd Mazda 6 in Dec 04. A 6 S 5-door. Lately I have noticed a pop/ click type of sound coming from the front end of the car when I pull into the garage and press the brake pedal. I notice the sound sometimes when I turn left or right driving around 15 to 25 mph. Is this something I need to rush the car to the dealership with or is it something that can wait for the next oil change?

Sounds like a suspension part like a strut or a bushing. Should be nothing major but you should still let them know ASAP.

My Mom's Taurus (which the 6s borrows the engine and some mechanicals from) had struts which easily fractured. She drove with microfractures in them for probably the last 50,000 miles of the car's life, and had few problems other than a popping or groaning noise when she hit a bump or made a turn. The noise steadily got worse until the car died.
I'd have it inspected by a mechanic (not necessarily the dealer) and just inspected, get an idea of what the problem is by someone intimate with cars, then have the car fixed under warrentee once you're informed.
The dealer will find a way to rape you with little charges, thaey'll find maintainence which doesn't need to be done and include it in their estimate, they'll do an oil change, a 30,000 mile tune up, things which they'll call regular maintainence that cost a lot
If you go in well informed on the problem and only clear them to fix that problem (get it in writing that they won't work on anything else if you have to) you will be in a much better position IMO. A lot of small mechanics are very knowledgable, and charge very litle for a simple inspection (at least here in San Diego)
