The Horsepower Race is heating up big time again. And I think its closing in on Critical Mass before law makers and insurance companies step in again to invoke yet another Dark Ages for the automobile.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 is to come equipped with a 5.8L Supercharged V8 making 650hp and 600lbs/ft.

The 5.8-liter V8 aluminum-block engine produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 3,850-pound car also stays exempt from the gas-guzzler tax.

This is what GM gets for bringing its B-game motor the LSA to the Camaro ZL1 with only 550hp and an extra 2-300lbs over the Mustang. They should have dropped the LS9 from the ZR1 at its 640hp into the car and called it a day.
