Default Red in winter
Went for a walk at my regular haunt this morning.. A bit too early to catch Oncidium maculatum and Schomburgkia superbiens in bloom, but managed to see these:

Red hot pokers (Kniphofia sp. ) 2011:

Those red hot pokers certainly make a statement! Wish they did better in my area!

I love the RHPs.
They look great in alot of landscapes, except mine.
Ended up disposing.

I love the flowers of the red hot poker, but I have issues with the foliage growth habit. I had it growing in the garden of my townhome years ago. The leaves practically laying on the ground looked messy and unkept. I eventually took it out. But I do love the flowers!

Yes, the plants do look very messy when not in bloom, as can be seen in the pic. But it makes a nice landscape display when in flower..
