Default Well that was an interesting experience....
As some of you may know, last week I got my temp rental car (VW Polo Bluemotion, 1 year old) whilst the perm one is being ordered. (same make/model, but a new one)

Today I was happily driving 120kmph down the highway when the tire pressure warning light came on, and the steering immediately went VERY funky indeed. Luckily I was less than 100m from a gas-station tunoff so I slowed down quickly and dived in the turning. I parked up less than 30 secs after the warning light had come on - then checked the tires to find that the right rear was completely flat and on the rim. [surrender]

Limped back home on the spare tire (limited to 80kmph). Garage confirmed that the tire-wall had basically collapsed inside, and I was lucky not to have had a serious accident.

Add to this the fact the one of the front day-lights is not working (a fineable offence here in The Netherlands, even though its not the main headlights), and I'm beginning to wonder if the rental company bothered to check ANYTHING on the car before issuing it to me.

Can't wait until I get my permanent rental, and get shot of this death-trap. Whats suprising is that this one is barely a year old, with less than 32,000 km on the clock.

You ordered a piss ant car when you use the motorway? That's like sailing the seas on a dingy. Last year my brother saw a Lorry turn in on a small car that was in it's blind spot on the motorway, he drove along for some time with a terrified woman pinned to the front grill, god alone knows what would have happened if someone had not flagged him down.

The new polo is actually pretty much the same size as a golf. Not exactly a "piss-ant" car, at least not for Europe.

Wow, they sit there and record it and let him pass instead of speeding up and letting the truck driver know something is wrong...

Too much of "Not my problem" going on these days...

So the garage fixed the light today - and also advised me that the car is well overdue a service - it should have been done in APRIL!! [surrender]

If it had been done on time, I wonder if the tire defect would have been spotted, thus preventing my high-speed flat-tire on Tuesday. I'm a little pissed off with the lease company about now!.......

I don't think a Polo is any more vulnerable on a motorway than most cars on there anyway. It's a perfectly fine car to use on one. Sounds like he tyre was pretty defective. I wonder if it's anything to do with them having low rolling resistance tyres. Probably not though.

sorry but I drive audi A3, 3 months no service is a joke... they can deal with those conditions.

My brother bought a German VW Lupo 3L (imported himself|), with hardly any service.. it's technical in perfect shape.

Yours is been a crackwhore so to speak.. it's completely mistreated. Thats why you deal with problems.

Thankfully I only have this one for 8 weeks more, then I get my "permanent" lease which should be a new Polo Bluemotion. Not one that someone has ragged for 35k km's.
