Default Oktoberfest
Has anyone actually been and knows which days are best to go? Start, middle, end? All of them?

I've had loads of armchair advice from people it turns out haven't been and I want the best experience.

Just to clarify for others, do you mean to get totally plastered, or do you mean to enjoy talking to the locals and trying a variety of the local produce while eating the local produce
I'm not a beer drinker, but the Kiwis and Aussies I do know that went over were in the former group and, apparently, they now have a separate area for that sort of drinker...

It's definitely not going to be this year now. Cheapest I can find flights and hotel for is £700 a person for 4 nights. I'm going on holiday a couple of times before October so I can't really afford the expense. Definitely going to do it next year though as it's a new thing to experience.

Christ that's a worrying price, are you sure! A bunch of people I know are organizing Oktoberfest this year at the moment and I've seen nothing being quoted anywhere near that.... Then again we are looking at hostels or camping in a field nearby as there are so many of us

EDIT - Hijacking the thread though, AFAIK its going on from around the 16th till 3rd Oct, I can't really go during the last weekend as I start a new job on the 3rd, so discounting the last 3 days when would be the best time to go, in order to get a good balance of busy but not so rammed you can't go anywhere at all. I was thinking sometime between 19th-22nd or 23rd till 27th/28th.

Flights are £180 with easyjet, but hotels a minimum of £500 each on hotels.com - you know any good hostels etc we could look at?

You can easily get a hotel room for say 3 nights for around 340€.

Not really TBH, I've got family living in Munich so my backup plan is just to stay there. I've just been observing the group for it on facebook and if they organize a good place/rate for lots of us (We've got 60 saying they're coming at the moment with another 50 maybes) then I'll go along to there.

Just double checked and the rates people are saying are about €30pppn for camping (with tent supplied) somewhere 10mins away by public transport or €70pppn for a hostel, so actually I guess the price you're saying for hotels looks about right! [no]

EDIT - http://www.wombats-hostels.com/de/mu.../reservierung/ is being mentioned on the group, some are saying they have stayed their before and it was alright.
