The article assumes that nobody would catch the essence of what is actually needed by the consumers. A smart TV with:

- All local on-demand services (such as netflix)
- Youtube
- online broadcast TV channels
- media playback from local media through USB / wifi / LAN
- ability to install similar apps as new services emerge / get updated

Focusing on these won't try to turn your TV into something that it isn't and the extra services you'd get would do nothing but streamline your TV setup by removing extra clutter (such as a WD TV Live box) and add extra functonality in the areas that you actually DO use your TV.

Oh and I doubt that Youtube, netflix, etc will be gone in 5 years, so hardly a bad investment.
After two years they'll just tell you that your tv won't be updatable anymore because there is a better and faster version of their new "smart tv's".

People will just need to start upgrading their tv and that's the last thing anyone needs.

You're completely off base here. Sure, that approach works for small electronics but Apple sell expensive items like desktop and laptop computers and manage to keep them updated for years and years.

I'm more talking about other tv manufacturers rather than Apple but still a tv is not a laptop or a computer.

Gawd, learn to read between the lines will you?

My point was that Apple don't always force an upgrade path.

I wasn't talking about other TV manufacturers, in fact the whole argument is about whether a new player such as apple, could enter the HDTV market and do the whole TV + internet thing right. This has nothing to do with how current manufacturers obviously handle it wrong (yes, getting texas hold em on your TV and playing it with your remote control is idiotic).

That's what I figured since Apple already offers a device which enhances the HDTV experience.

Although compared to other devices Apple Tv is crap.

I never tried an apple tv, but it can't be worse than the WD TV Live

If Apple made a HDTV, 80% of all FM members would buy one and no matter how shitty it would be, 85% of them would hail it as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

btw, all stats are 100% true.

If Apple made the scientifically proven best HDTV, with the most features, at the most reasonable price you could be 100% sure that Golem would hate it.

I don't care how good it is, I won't get one because I refuse to put i-tunes on my PC and I'm sure the TV will need to sync with i-tunes.

I'm thinking you should atop being this negative "it's cool and trendy to hate Apple these days" muppet and try one of the Apple products yourself. I bet you'd like it. Just like i did.

To be fair, iTunes on a PC is a quite horrific experience.

it would be totally crap for the first 4 Gens and then at that point they would repackage it as HDTV 5 but it would still be the same shite just in a different colostomy bag.
