Epic goal.

This level of icehockey has never ever seen goal like this.

Russian players are like "wtf, mate?"

Last year Minnesota Wilds drafted him in the first round. Mikael Granlund however played last season still in our own hockey league.

And yea-a were are in the finals! [thumbup]http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif

I don't follow ice hockey much so I don't know what's considered kickass...but man, that looks super awesome!

c2siOlIk 05-14-2011 03:23 PM

I too don't follow hockey but that was superb. Awesome skill.

slimsex 05-14-2011 04:01 PM

Was that French?

Civilrecordzz 05-14-2011 04:12 PM

Yeah i saw that game live and i was like WTF was that. [surrender]

Russians got crushed in the 3rd period which was a little bit of a surprise to me to say the least.

But i think Sweden's gonna win the final game.

houkbsdov 05-14-2011 05:40 PM

That was insane, is that even legal?

I agree. I mean we have lost the finals so many times. It's pathetic...

He was "holding" the puck so it was legal. Otherwise it would have been high sticking.

Rnlvifov 05-15-2011 12:45 AM

Absolutely beautiful, but technically high-sticking.

It was practically the height of the crossbar! It's okay! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

I'v seen a few goals like this, they are all pretty insane, including this one!

Nope. High-sticking = playing the puck with the stick above the "standing up shoulder level". Crossbar of the goal is below the shoulder level. Can't be high-sticking.

TessUnsonia 05-15-2011 02:07 AM

Wow, nice. Drafted by the MN Wild you say?

Maybe for international play, but in the NHL a goal that is knocked in from above the crossbar is high-sticking. It doesn't make that goal any less impressive though. This hockey tournament doesnt mean much though as Canada, USA, Russia, and even Sweden are all missing their best players. Fun to watch though with the NHL winding down and my Wings knocked out of the playoffs.

Edit: high-sticking the puck (knocking it out of mid-air) is judged from shoulder height.

I never understood the 'shoulder' measurement. Whose shoulder are we talking about? The goalie's? Zdeno Charo's or Theo Fleury's? I like the crossbar measurement, but, then again, that one only works if the deflection is fairly close to the goal-line.

I think I'm so used to Bettman's NHL where anything beautiful is waved off. That's probably why my immediate reaction is to say it's high-sticking. I'd call it a good goal, but I could see Toronto calling it off because the heel of the blade is technically above the crossbar, even though it's the toe that guides the puck in the net.

All in all, it's a stunning play, and I wish the rules around dangling and craddling were more relaxed.

If you say so, but stuff like that is seen in the Major Junior leagues.

I know but like I said "this level". Major Junior leagues aren't at this level.

Also, I know NHL nor north america doesn't care too much about IIHF's World Champion Hockey Games but it's still very high level of hockey. Ovechkin, Nabokov, Tavares, Kane, Koivu, Kovalchuk, Gaborik, Hossa etc etc top players from NHL are present. Don't know all the players Canada got to their team but it wasn't bad. Sweden has a lot of the young superstars in their team.

I enjoyed watching the IIHF tournament as any hockey is good hockey IMO. Nabokov blows btw, there is a reason he couldn't cut it in the KHL and didn't play in the NHL this year. The USA and Canada are still missing a majority of their stars as the Stanley Cup playoffs are still in full swing.

scoundtrack 05-16-2011 01:00 AM

Agreed.

That's why the IIHF games in Canada few years back were awesome. A lot of NHL stars were present.

husartrof 05-16-2011 08:34 AM

this goal style is ofter seen in junior hockey here 2 goal like that last season in the lhjmq its not common in professional game for 1 reason the defensive pressure is a high and the time really aint there + if you miss your show coach will kill you for being selfish and burning a great offensive position

but it is a cool looking way to score hehe

I've seen ice hockey now and again on the TV, mostly highlights, and I'm amazed that ref's can actually make a call on so many goals - seems the puck is in and out in a blink of an eye. I have trouble spotting it, sometimes, even in slow motion http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif

Well, if they are unsure, they can always check it on video (they have extra ref at a control booth and the on-ice ref can call him to verify goal/no-goal at any time)
