Thing is though, Galaxy S II will be out LAST in North America, around Q3. Total bummer, as that will be a beast phone.

If you're with rogers, get a good retention plan (threaten to leave because Bell/Telus is giving you such and such package for x dollars), then grab the Captivate.

Any of your options would be a sidegrade at best, so don't change anything.

I've also got a Rogers HUP that I'm just sitting on. The best thing they have on offer is a Nexus S, which was outdated the day it was conceived and is stuck at 16GB - dealbreaker! Rogers needs to upgrade its lineup stat.

Buying a Blackberry would be like going back to the stone age for you. Windows Phone 7 looks like its crashing and burning - wait a year to see if Nokia can breathe any life into it.

The Galaxy S is an OK phone and the Xperia Arc is OK too but if you absolutely had to have an Android phone from Rogers right this second, you'd probably be better off with the Nexus S because you don't get saddled with Samsung and Sony's UI skins and their delayed updates, etc. You get the sauce straight from Google. The Nexus S is a critically flawed device, but at least you're not stuck with the horrendous update histories of Sony and Samsung.

Anyone know when we can expect the succesor to HTC desire Z?
I really want my new phone to have QWERTY. I tried Galaxy S's swipe and while its surprisingly good (at least for long words), qwerty is so much better.

I'll be getting my new phone in august-december, but was hoping for desire Z 2 being a lot thinner due to new tech.

Or any other touch+qwerty android phone?

Might be worth seeing what Motorola do with the Droid 3 (possible GSM variant Milestone 3) as they are QWERTY sliders.

As stated though, if you're comfortable with rooting and installing custom ROMs, the Captivate is a great choice as you're not reliant on Samsung. And I really don't see what's "critically flawed" about the Nexus S. The hardware isn't as strong as the Captivate, but it's still a great phone.

I can't comment on Sony's update record but I have had no problems updating my Galaxy S to the latest firmware, sure it will always be a little behind the Google devices but that's a given.

Also the interface is so easy to change, just go to the market and download the ginger launcher and there you go, your Galaxy S looks like a Nexus S, will take what? 30 seconds!. [yes]

The problem with the Galaxy S was always the file system, rfs file system sucks and causes lag, thankfully this can be changed but requires rooting.

The critical flaw with the Nexus S is indeed the16GB. If you have a separate music device, then perhaps that's sufficient but you can't sell a device limited to 16GB these days and call it up-to-date. Google should be pushing the bar with its Nexus devices, not sitting on its heels.

Don't forget that the Galaxy has a semi-defective GPS, in addition to the crap file system. Also don't forget that updating the Galaxy demands Kies, which is a half-working piece of crap.

My sister's experience with the Galaxy S has been mediocre at best. I don't know why anyone would want to buy one of these at this time.

I got Nokia E7 myself and I prefer it over the desire z. It feels like it's built a lot better than any HTC phone. Just like all the E series have been.

Haven't really noticed much real difference between Android and Symbian. I would say it's really worth checking out no matter what people say [yes]

Are you referring to the nexus s? Mine has a front facing cam. We've just got video calling with the 2.3.4 update.
