Example from Verizon that applies to all smartphones:
You sure it is the carriers that control it? For example on my evo I am not supposed to be able to use the hotspot because I am not paying the $30 a month to "enable" it. But alas my warm two point two rom allows me to tether my 3G and 4G. [thumbup] Just like the jailbroken iphone 3G. Seems more of a software lock. I guess technically the carrier controls it but it is only a software lock in the grand scheme of things.

So yes, as I mentioned, it comes down to the carrier. [rofl]

Mmm... What are you using? MyWi or PDANet?
MyWi. So all I really had to pay for was the app itself, which I can't remember the cost right now. Like $5-10 maybe.

USB tethering is 100% free with jailbreak by default though IIRC, so it's easier to use unless you're trying to share internet between more than 1 device.

And yes prostreetcamaro, it's just a software lock. The firmware / carrier settings for my phone are from AT&T and I've been able to use USB tethering for a couple years now, even though AT&T only recently started offering a tethering enabled data plan once the iPhone 4 came out. And since it's all through the original unlimited data plan still, it doesn't cost extra. I've read that if you bought an unlocked iPhone and used it with other carriers other than AT&T you could also enable tethering option. It's just that AT&T's is disabled, so must be jailbroken.

You have to have the 4GB Data plan. Unfortunately if you have the unlimited plan, you'll have to switch over to that.

WTF! Can't even see the hotspot setting on the phone? I'm assuming it takes the Carrier to enable the feature to even see the option on the phone [thumbdown]

There are some carriers in the uk that don't allow this (tesco), who are you with?

The only ones I have heard that work are t mobile with a sim only plan or O2/vodafone if you have tethering on your contract. 3 seems to work regardless of whatever contract you have.

Dilangfh 10-03-2011 05:37 PM

To get HotSpot to work you need the tethering bolt on from your service provider. I think its £5 a month from O2

I put 4.3 on my iPad earlier this week for the guy that bought mine so I didn't have much time to use it. I will check it out tomorrow when I pick up my iPad 2 and then maybe update my phone this weekend.

Can I use my existing email and web for smartphone plan to access this functionality?
No, the 3G Mobile Hotspot functionality is an additional optional feature that will have a $40 incremental cost with a 5GB data allowance with $0.05MB overage rate.

4.3 is working great on my iPhone 4, the Safari performance is so much better!

Safari really is a lot faster on my iPhone 4 http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/smile1.gif

Even the the general use of the iPhone 4 seems a lot smoother and more responsive. I found the UI would lag and stutter sometimes when opening and closing apps but this has now gone for me [thumbup]

Yeah indeed, the more I have been using it today the more it feels like some extra performance has been unlocked or something.

I notice it mostly in Safari but yeah I gotta say it does feel a little tuned up.
