Ganna order some just for some extra security on a couple of windows. Anyone use the magnet type or the virbation one?

Cheap as in mega cheap! looks like they do the job, long as they go of and make a loud noise all that matters but would like to know if anyone uses any here and how they are.

I just had my home quoted for an alarm system by Akerman security. The price was between $500-800 depending on the options selected, and $24/mo monitoring fee. I still have much to do on my home before my girlfriend and her daughters move in (reason why I am doing it) such as new flooring and painting etc. But the cost certainly did surprise me. I got both my businesses installed for free.

I've looked at this site before and if you want to do something that is not monitored by a service, you can do your whole home with a wireless system for about $500. But this is a system with a central panel and remotes.

As per window senors that are also alarms built in....these are new to me. Sensors that report to a central panel are about $15-25 each and a central panel is prolly the best way to go.

I have one like the first one you posted on the back door. Works well and is super loud. Never goes off accidentally.

Good to know. But am thinking of getting the vibration ones, as want the alarm to go off if they start messing around with the window, not untill it moves and the magnet connection breaks.

I have a system in my place, which as a couple of the magentic sensors as well aas some motion detectors. They work well, but just make sure you affix them using screws and not the adhesive stuff it comes with, becuase on a hot day the adhesive tends to weaken and sometimes detatch completely, and the last thing you want is a 120db flase alarm! [cursing]

The only regret I have with the system I go though is, despite being all remote comtrolled (which is convenient and all) it does not have a 10 sec alarm delay. Which means that you either have to deactivate via remote or put the main panel out of range.
