It's worth it over the 3GS even.
Agreed, the speed bump, screen and battery improvements alone are worth it. I now can go a couple days without charging my phone. Granted I haven't used my phone for much other than texts and a couple calls this weekend but the last time it was plugged in was Friday and I am at about 43% battery.

If you're single, young and well-paid then I'd agree. The days of iPhones being for early-adopters with deep pockets are gone though and I can't see any justification for anyone to spend £500 upgrading for the extra features you get. Obviously, if you're at the end of your contract and due a free upgrade then it's worth it.

I sold my 3G S for $20 more than I paid for my 32GB 4, including tax. I did have to renew my contract though.

There should be a PDF copy as well in the purchaser's email.

Exactly. I technically got my iPhone 4 with zero out of pocket expense due to selling my 3GS on ebay.

That's fine if your operator lets you get the handset at a subsidised cost if you renew your contract but I still don't think that many people can justify spending $500/£500 to upgrade the 3GS to the 4.

To you and me, it's hugely extravagant, but to others it may be a very useful upgrade or an affordable toy - remember, there are a few members here who's annual income would be pushing 7 figures and several well into 6 figures!

Their money, their choice!

I thought I'd already made it obvious that my opinion was relative to the salary of the person in question... I said "If you're single, young and well-paid then I'd agree." when musing about upgrading from the 3GS to the 4 a few posts ago.

Which also ties in with my comments

Why on earth would you have to be single and young for it? As surprising as it may sound, salary does go up with age, and a spouse that also works means more income /shocker

"I can't see any justification" is just a different way of saying "in my opinion". Didn't we ship any thesauruses down there with all the criminals?

I should have put single / young / wealthy rather than combine them. I should be locked up for such a crime, I really should.

Single or young or wealthy covers a pretty huge part of the population, so guess upgrading from a 3GS to a 4G is worth it for a lot of people
