Default Can a blackberry...
I have a friend that has a blackberry that said she sent me an email (which I did not receive) and that she went back and looked and it told her that it was recieved and read. Is that possible without read receipts turned on?

No. Unless she is getting confused with Read Receipts and Delivery Reports?

The OS has fallen behind big time lately. So yea, it's fair to say they are crap. Now with 6.0 coming out soon, the game may change in their favor. We'll just have to wait and see how things work out. As it stands right now, android and the iphone are the better smart phones (sans iphone 4 that is).

I've used all smartphones except for Symbian OS phones. The combination of hardware and OS on Blackberries can't be beat for people who use their phone as a PIM/business device. It's funny the people who call it crap are the ones the device isn't being marketed to.

If you have a BlackBerry you wouldn't use the gmail app.
Not sure about hotmail but with gmail, using imap you don't get read receipts automatically, and I've never had an email not send that I've noticed. I do have the gmail app installed and it doesn't show R if there was no read reply sent. I'm pretty sure that is only possible on exchange email servers??

It's a good point. The amount of times I've needed to throw my 3GS against a wall and managed to stop myself just in time when I realise it might break is ridiculous.

Unless the email contains a life or death matter, why would she lie about it?

Women don't use reason or logic for anything. They are mindless zombies controlled solely by their hormones.

In enterprise, you don't buy blackberries for the phone, you buy them for the enterprise management behind the phone. Apple is supposed to release more enterprise management tools this summer (installing apps without iTunes OTA from IT), you can already remote wipe from Exchange/Zimbra. Android has nothing that I know of. With BES you have fine grain control over what the users are allowed to do on their devices.

From a user perspective though, yeah I think BBs are crap.

It was a fairly important email in her eyes, but regardless the fact is I did not recieve the email.
Plus, why would she lie about being able to see that I received and read an email when I did not?
Who knows??? Hence one of the reasons I no longer have her in my life.
