Default Necessary Android apps?
I got a great deal for HTC Desire, so I'm now wondering - what are the necessary, essential or just simply best software/games available for Android/Desire?

Would appreciate dividing free / chargeable (sp? those things that cost anyway)

I think the must have geek app is Google Sky Map. No one ever really uses it but you still have to have it there.

G Strings is pretty cool it an auto guitar tuner. I don't know how there Desire is for ring tones but for the G1 I had to get Rings Extended to open up custom/mp3 ring tones.

Another one I have but rarely use is Scanner Radio. It allows you to listen to streamed air, marine and police radio, as well as some HAM radio repeaters.

At least the MP3 ringtones are IIRC listed as "supported ring tones" list for Desire

edit:
Is there any free Navigation (GPS) applications for Desire / Android? With Finland's map, of course

Not sure, but check if the google maps turn by turn navigation works in Finland - it does in the UK, not in Norway, no clue about Finland...

I found a desire with the app store enabled on it in the shop and after playing with it for a bit I'm now more convinced of the maturity of Andriod apps. I kinda want to get one now and be done with apple.

While this post is useless to your cause, I just wanted to post something. :P

2.2 negates the need for a lot of apps I deem necessary, but here are a few useful ones:
(I don't own a desire so some of these may be redundant due to stock apps)

Keyboard:
Swype
Well the beta ended so it's not in the market anymore but... *nudge nudge wink wink nudge wink*

File Manager:
Astro (the newly added SMB pushes it to/beyond EStrong File Explorer IMO)

IM Client:
Nimbuzz IM & Voice

Remote PC:
PhoneMyPC
(It's not free sadly, but sound issues aside for now it's the best currently out there)

App that returns you to homescreen when a call ends:
Not Call Log

Un-RARing, Un-7ZIPing program:
AndroZip File Manager (Still weak IMO, but the best there is currently)

Battery Saver!:
Juice Defender (Free but you can buy Ultimate Juice to add more options. The free is more then good enough to triple your battery life easily.)

Crap I think is pointless yet seems to be all the rage:
Handsent SMS (alternative SMS client)
Screebl (turns your screen off/ keeps it on depending what angle you hold it at)
Locale (turns on/off your ringer and other settings based on your location)

The list explodes if you decide to root your phone.

edit:
I also recommend the free Shazam over Sound Hound if you want a music tagging program.
And please don't install an antivirus program.
