Default America's F1 race!
Looks like Austin, Texas, has the rights for the next ten years - perhaps USF1 will now be able to get something sorted for next year - assuming they are still in business and get an entry?

Well thats good news, but USF1 were having a bit of a laugh with their entry. I don't they were even close this year. Maybe next year though.

A bit out of the blue location wise, it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Austin is the only place in TX I can tolerate.

And USF1 died as an entity months ago. I don't think they even have anything still left infrastructure or personnel wise.

Austin does, indeed, seem a very good choice - great place and a shed load of money.

F1 seemed dead in the water, according to this - http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-...actory-closes/

However there may be some hope - but bear in mind the source - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...S-f1-deal.html

I guess around $300 million to build the track/facility.

Looking forward to some more details!

Awwwww yeah.

This'll be great - I'm guessing the track will be somewhere in south Austin near the airport, where there's lots of open land. Maybe a 20 minute drive from my place

Did I just hear you volunteer your place as the official FM hangout locale for the race weekend?

This came completely out of left field, but I couldn't be happier. It sounds as though the track will be more or less in my back yard....and should be great for the local economy.

This town (Austin) desperately needs some sort of professional sports, and is currently dominated by University of Texas athletics.

If everything comes together, I'll definitely be in attendance every year [thumbup].

Edit: But please, for the sake of everything that is good and right in this world....don't schedule the event during the Summer.

Favoured architect Hermann Tilke will design the new F1 track.
Woops, there goes the optimism already!

Apparently the promoter is much farther along than anybody realized, which makes the 2012 date seem less ridiculous. (Source)

I still remain fairly skeptical, though.

Now since America got the 10 year deal, wonders which track will be left out [surrender]. Been hearing rumours for a few years now that Sepang will no longer host F1 in the future, guess it might actually come true

Agreed. That man's managed to design one of two good corners since he started.

Doubtful, as F1 is hoping to have more races a year not less. The track owners PAY the F1 company for them to turn up, more races means more advertising, and bigger TV deals.
