Default Getting things done...what do you do?
What are some methods you guys use to manage your time effectively and actually get things done? I used to be dependent on my mobile at one point - set up all sorts of schedules and get rid of at least 1 item a day but now it's conking out.

What mobile and tools (on your desktop/media center/insert item here) are you using or is it all in your head?

At work I use a running to-do list (which is basically a notepad file on my PC's desktop). I frequently send myself to-do emails at the end of the day, to ensure I'll see the critical things when I come into work the next morning. I also send myself to-do emails over the weekend /evenings when stuff pops into my head - that way I can dump it out of my brain and forget about it.

At home I mostly rely on my wife.

You should try basecamp (www.basecamphq.com)

I mainly use a combination of MS Project Server, ActivCollab, Basecamp, Critical path management and a **** off gannt chart stuck to the wall behind me (large format printers are great for these).

As well as these tools I rely a lot on my experience telling me when we are potentially going to have problems.

I just do things as they come up, not trying to push them away for later.

I tend to ignore things, get distracted and procrastinate until there's around 24 hours left at most, and do it all in one huge panicked rush - usually through the night.

It's worked pretty well for Uni at least........

That's actually a really inefficient way of organising things at work, but if you just mean for home life then it's always best to do things when they are needed.

MS Exchange calendar synced to Droid for work.
Google Cal synced to Droid for my own side business and home tasks.

Ya I am really dependent on my mobile...[surrender]

If I'm at my desk at home, a scrappy piece of paper with an equally scrappy cryptic reminder.

If I'm at work, same as above [rofl]

If I'm out and about, mobile phone.

I use one of those sideways spiral spring looking things that hold envelopes and papers straight up.

Well there are always exceptions to the rule but on the whole it is a very inefficient resource management technique.

As some have said, in some work environments, that can be inefficient.
However, I expect some of the guys are in the fast food business - and I would be pissed if they made someone else's pizza or burger before mine!
