Offering wifi is a great way to get people to stay longer and buy more!

Were McDonalds not also guilt yo turning down the heating a few years ago to get people to GTFO once they'd finished? Maybe that was an urban myth though. Their restaurants sure were cold though! (here in the UK anyway)

I think it's a great idea. Several businesses already offer free wi-fi to their customers. I don't care for an iPhone, but I have a nice Touch 2g and love it when I go to stores that offer wi-fi without having to pay more for it besides the already inflated price for their services.

McDonalds is just doing this to keep up with their push to bring people from places like Starbucks over. First they started pushing their McCafe, now their doing this.

I prefer to call it going green.

Don't people go into Starbucks, buy a coffee and spend 4 hours on the free wifi. It would be great if they kept buying coffee and cakes, but they don't.

I suspect that report doesn't factor in energy costs related to battery-powered scooters and stairwell lifts or gas-powered chainsaws needed to cut a large enough holes in the wall of their bedroom so that the diesel-powered crane can hoist them into an eco-friendly, hybrid ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Well depending on franchise owners, some do and some don't. Chick-fil-A is the same way.

This would make the burden for the implementation on AT&T's hands, and it would be available in every McD all over the nation. AT&T's been doing this more and more recently with different businesses to promote getting their laptop connect cards to access all these hotspots for "free (included in the plan)."

I'll never understand how people get that fat. I'm fat... but the moment I had troubles with my daily life I'd be on a hardcore diet in a heartbeat. Whenever I see fat people on scooters I just want to push them off and tell them to walk their fat ass around the store and burn a few calories.

I think that has more to do with atmosphere though. Whether a coffee shop has wifi or not I will stay for a longer time. I go to coffee shops all the time and get a coffee and do homework for a few hours. It smells good, has nice music playing, and has nice comfortable furniture. McD's doesn't have any of the latter.

At most of the Starbucks I randomly frequent, the wi-fi isn't free.

Had it here for ages and you know what the funny thing is? I have never, ever seen one person in McDonalds sat down with a laptop, psp or staring at their phone. Not once.

Having siad that though I really don't see it as being anyway bad. Well not unless you start getting people watching porn.

Yeah it's been available at most McDonalds for a couple of years here in Australia. No purchase is required to use it.

Getting more customers and making them stay longer = more $$$.

I've seen quite a few tourists around. Its odd to not have a few people during the day.

I wouldn't actually really want to use a laptop in McD's anyway. Grease the hell outta it and plus, the main general target audience of McD's, I don't think you'd want to pull out a laptop.

I use my ipod touch though when I need to access something real quick when I'm out and about.

Especially when their food is addicting and only costs $1!

You can't even get Starbuck's sh/tty black coffee for that price!


I don't get why they need to make a deal with ATT? All their stores already have internet service to connect them to their servers and run credit cards. All you need is a wireless router, set it up properly and bam, you have wifi at a cost of like $20 per store.




Why go to Starbucks for WIFI? I had rather go to Panera Bread. Still have pick me up drinks, nice music, comfortable, baked goods, and FOOOOOD!!!! unlike starbucks.
