Congrats!!! I am just about in the same boat. I am one month away from paying the balance on my last card, only $600 left from over $6000.
Amazing effort on your part. That's a lot of debt to pay off so quickly without piling more on. I have friends that could only wish they had $13000 credit card debt instead of what they have now. It's so easy to charge those cards up when they are sooo easy to get. Again, congrats, now buy yourself something expensive ![]() |

Well done, it's a great feeling to know you don't owe anybody anything!
I managed to get myself out of debt about 6-7 months ago as well, though I never owed more than £2500 it was still more than I wanted to owe the banks. ......then I went to Uni, Debt-o-meter currently stands about around £6,000 and I'm still in the first year. Should be worth it though ![]() |

IM SO FRUCKEN JEALOUS!! I got 15k to go[thumbdown][cursing][cursing] 1. Adjust your lifestyle to accommodate a "credit free" lifestyle. By that I mean, don't buy anything unless you have the cash for it. 2. Cut up your credit cards, and keep one of them for emergency purposes only 3. Negotiate with your creditors. Believe it or not, right now is the BEST time to be in debt, because a lot of credit card companies are more than willing to accept any offer that involves them being paid back (Including pennies on the dollar for what you owe). Credit right now means very little, as even those with excellent credit scores are still finding themselves without a loan due to the credit freeze. I consolidated my debt for a fraction of what I owed, and instead of it taking 30 years or more to pay back, I only paid about 30% of what I owed in 2.5 years, and am fully paid off. |

I will be in about £16000 debt at the end of uni (all student loans) However since I started working I cleared my (interest free) overdraft and am around £600-700 in the black, I intend to build that up to around £1000 or a little more at the end of the semester and then work full time over the summer so that this next and final year I will not have to work and still stay positive at the end of the year.
