Default Acer customer support...
anyone else find them a bit ****?

Rcently got hold of a Acer Aspire M1201 base unit for peanuts and as its new machine, few months old I wondered if it would be possible to stick a new Phenom in there.

Now Acer have the worst website in the history of computer hardware. Their Uk site doesn't even have a driver download section

Anyway I popped a polite email off to them asking what the most recent bios was and what the cpu support list was for it.

I got this reply

Hello, Thank you for contacting Acer.

Regarding your enquiry,

There are no further BIOS updates as yet for this model so the one you are running is the current one. We do not support processor upgrades on any of models so will not be able to say the maxium processor this can take

Acer Technical Support Team What the hell is up with that [cursing]

So if you buy a acer product you have to buy a new pc if you want a speed upgrade [thumbdown] Idiots.

Bit of a rant but I think support like that is utterly pathetic and wouldn't advise anyone to buy a acer product despite the product itself being pretty decent.

/rant.

The combination of AMD value with strong features provides you this robust product. Offering quality without compromise the Aspire M1201 supports a wide range of options making it both versatile and great value. Supporting AMD Sempron™, AMD Athlon™ X2 dual-core and AMD Phenom™ X3 8000 series quad-core processor enriched with a with Vista Home Premium capable ATI Radeon™ 2100 Graphics makes the M1201 your preferred choice. It says x3 is a quadcore... but it looks like it supports it.

Dealing direct with Acer it took me 10 weeks for a DOA replacement.

Oh and they offered me the following:

P4 3ghz
9600 256mb
2 gigs of ram
4.5kg

instead of

Pentium M 2ghz
9600 128mb
2gigs of ram
3.0kg

Err, no.

So rather than offer me one of the travelmate series that was very similar they waited till their new product lines came out

Acer blows. My uncle has one of their laptops. I ended up fixing the touchpad for him.
