Default What time do polls close in the US?
This isn't really political so I didn't think it needed to be in the Politics forum.

They just had the 11pm news on the radio and they said that the first polls had closed in the US. As the east coast is about 5 hours behind us it means the latest it could be is 6pm! Do the polls really close that early in the US? What about people who are work during the day?

I think that's just a couple precincts in Indiana and maybe somewhere else. For the most part the east coast closes at about 8 pm. Alaska is done at 1am, but I think the continental US is done at 11pm, all EST.

cnn.com actually has a list of states and their pole closing times right on their home page.

I've had a quick look around CNN.com and I can't seem to find it.

Thanks.

It's 7:10 PM on the East Coast. Day Lights Savings Time.

The first precincts closed at 7:00 PM.

Slightly OT and not really political but I have to ask...

I am watching the coverage on the BBC right now. The coverage in the past tended to be very good. It might just be me though but the BBC coverage tonight just doesn't seem to be as well put together, if it wasn't for the BBC logo I would have been covinced that I was watchig the coverage on channel 5 or something.

Maybe it is just me.
