Spider vs Bird
Take a look at this: Spider vs Bird
|
I've seen those spiders around before, usually in colder moist places with plenty of shade. But I've never seen one that size, biggest one I've seen would of been about a little bigger then half the size of my hand. But that one looks a lot bigger then my hand.
Seeing something like that would make me sh*t my pants http://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/tongue1.gif, but I would still investigate in nonetheless, spiders are quite interesting creatures. Sucks to be the bird though. Wonder if it died before or after the spider got to it. |
Awesome. Reminds me of this game (which I was addicted to for a couple of weeks):
http://www.kongregate.com/games/DigY.../arachnophilia Oh, and "Go Steelers!" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...y/Steelers.gif |
Doesnt the Golden Orb spider make really huge webs?
Such a sinister looking creature even for an aracknid. |
I find it even more amazing that the web was strong enough to entangle a bird and keep it there.

Mind blowing! That thing is truly a monster. I can't believe it got that big though, that is uncommon.

Looked up on wiki, de dutch page for this kind of spider has a nice high-res picture of one.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ng-and-2-m.jpg But the one holding the bird was much larger and it's legs are thick. Luckely I don't have one around my home. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...s/biggrin1.gif |

never seen that one before......... |
Holy Sh*t !!
http://www.abc.net.au/science/scribblygum/february2004/ from that page.... The webs of Golden orbs are so strong they can catch birds, and are also used by some Pacific Islanders to make fishing nets. lol, Spiderman has nothing on these guys! Thats a seriously strong web! http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/blink1.gif |

Also. "Now comes the big moment. The male carefully inserts his sperm-laden palps into the female genital opening to fertilise her. This appears quite bizarre to any observer - the suitor, perhaps one 20th the size of his lady love, perched precariously over her like a small jet parked on the deck of an aircraft carrier." lol[rofl] And some of those spiders on that site a fairly common and I've seen them around quite a few times in my life. http://www.abc.net.au/science/scribb.../eriophora.jpghttp://www.abc.net.au/science/scribb...mg/andrews.jpg http://www.abc.net.au/science/scribb.../img/cross.jpghttp://www.abc.net.au/science/scribb...piderlings.jpg There not very scary and are fairly harmless and tend to just run away when disturbed, I know from experiencehttp://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/tongue1.gif. What's more scary to me is going into the cupboard shelves to crab something to eat at the back and just as you go to grab it you see a spider-web with a red-back spider on it no more then an inch away. |
From my hazzey memmory i watched a docu that had them on, there webs where huge caught birds and bats, the webs spanning across trees pretty far apart.
One of the animals that walked through breaking them was Elephants, well im pretty sure it was Golden Orb spideys. |

I saw the spider to and it must of fell of because my head hit it head on and I instantly jumped of the bike and started bitch slapping myself in the face trying to get off[rofl]http://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/tongue1.gif. Was fairly strong web to, my friend got a small stick and tried getting some of the web out of my hair and the stick broke doing so. I can't believe I still remember that, it was so many years ago. |
