Well some of you may have seen M$'s recent $300m advertising campaign aimed at ditching the stigma created in the Apple ad campaign that all PC users are squares (albeit, quirky ones!) and showed some famous non-squares who prefer to use Windows.
Well apple has hit back with a few more of the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads, focused souly on making fun of Microsoft's over the top advertising budget for their campaign compared to their apparent lack of urgency or commitment when it comes to "fixing vista's flaws". Check out the full article (incl. ads) here: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Microsof...news-2790.html I personally have always found Apple's advertising campaign very funny... mainly because, despite some obvious flaws in their digs against PC users, I can appreciate the humor and also understand that the situation for PC users is no where near as dire as it is made out to be... especially when it comes to Vista. I do, however, agree with the criticism in the article where it mentions that it has reached a point where I can't recall seeing any actual advertising for Apple's products in their ads at all. It's pretty much a bash PC campaign. Even with the new MacBook's out, they have not really decided to show them off (probably becuase they made one of the stupidest decisions ever and ditch the FireWire port!). I am not really bashing apple for the choice of advertising because it is, in the end, their choice. Bit it has reached a point where I would like to see a fairer campaign focused more on the capabilities of their products rather than the apparent shortcomings of their competition. Thoughts? |

My philosophy still is that... It's NOT the machine that messes up... It's the USER that sits in front of it...
There is not a thing that a mac can do that a pc cant... and there are still TONS of things that Windows can do that a Apple cannot... You still have to find specific hardware and software for a mac. Altho there are a few items that do not apply, 90%+ still are PC only at most stores. I just hate to hear people say "oh well a mac is better if you are a creative person, if you like to do video or photo editing" -UNTRUE The issue with PC is this... there is TOO MUCH junk floating around, with mac if you want to edit videos.. you have maybe 2-3 choices, all of which will perform the same with out issue. On a PC you have 10+ choices of good software that you can edit video with, then you have HUNDREDS of knock offs and half assed programs that don't do sh*t. The only thing with PC is you actually have to research before you buy software to make sure its good... If you have a mac, You already know the software is good. Mac=Lazy People, to lazy to research, to lazy to find out what NOT to download or believe on the net. Any way... my $0.02 ![]() |

I like Apple commercials. They are really funny. Something nice to watch between my show.
Microsoft's "I am a PC" is a pretty cool one as well. I think that the others are lame though. I really do not like the one where people try out a "test" OS. The user says it is awesome and then finds out that it is Vista. I still don't care for Vista, and everyone one that I know still doesn't like it except for 1 or 2 people. I am a PC guy, and will always us a PC, but I can totally understand why people use Apples. |

Everyone has PC's. Few people have Macs.
Apple don't need to convince people they want a Mac. Apple need to convince people they don't want a PC. This has worked well. Why would Apple change strategy? While we are on the subject.... If you gave $300,000,000 to Google's Summer of Code, how many new features could you get? In six months you would be logging in by jamming a metal spike into your brain stem. Ok, perhaps that was an exaggeration. |

One day you're going to walk into the Sydney Apple Store and shoot everyone! [surrender] Nah, I have never been a fan at all of those ads, I think they are in bad taste and pretty dumb. There were a couple kind of funny ones near the start of the campaign but I think they are very worn out by now. Their iPod and iPhone ad campaigns I think are good but not these. [no] |

If you spend more time bashing your competitor rather than promoting the benefits and merit of your own products, eventually people are going to start to wonder why that is the case.
Bit like that old guy I see on the news at the moment....what's his name....he sometimes has that remedial student with him...... *click* Grumpy Joe! |

I find the Mac adverts pretty lame, promoting one product just by saying how crap the competitors product is a little shallow really.
I remember when the first G5's came out and the adverts that said "the fastest home computer in the world", they had them pulled because err they weren't. Just making up random slurs doesn't come across too well. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ODWuuHbx1y0 So just because Jeff Goldbum says so its true [rofl] |

This is the best mac advertisement ever You happy Cubase? You stirred the pot and got the people on a predominantly PC board rabbling. Preaching to the choir a bit, don't you think? ![]() |
