If electricy overloads only causes it to reboot, then EMP probably won't do much better, the curcuitry is obviously very robust. Also a EMP burst big enough to stop a Terminator will probably bring attention very fast.
But it's a TV show, unless the writers are contantly bouncing ideas off a scientist to make sure they don't look like retards you'll get these things cropping up. |

Yeah, but I imagine it's nothing on the scale of a nuke (which to make work over a very large area you have to trigger very high in the atmosphere). Everything made is mostly to test critical electronics so they are resistent to a real EMP attack. Most critical equipment (air craft electronics) would be tested by such means.

I guess not then... but I suppose John Connor could always build a nuke and send it in to space, seeing as he can time travel. |

There are a number of devices to achieve this objective, ranging from a large low-inductance capacitor bank discharged into a single-loop antenna or a microwave generator to an explosively pumped flux compression generator. To achieve the frequency characteristics of the pulse needed for optimal coupling into the target, wave-shaping circuits and/or microwave generators are added between the pulse source and the antenna. A vacuum tube particularly suitable for microwave conversion of high energy pulses is the vircator.
Got that from wikipedia. So it's easily done with the right equipment. I've heard story's of some paranoid people who have tiny ones setup in their computers to wipe the drives in can of an "emergency". [rofl] |
