It certainly has potential, I will keep an eye on the development of it for sure. I am very interested in its GUI and OS.
![]() It is strange though how the phone is only $20 less yet has 1/8th the storage capacity, they must be heavily reliant upon T-Mobile's data network. *edit* Just found a video of the GUI in action and it is looking miiiighty slick. |

Looks good!
Just ordered a Samsung Omnia myself, ordered it last week, but apparently their selling like "hot cakes", so I've yet to get mine, hopefully be Friday now. I did order the Tocco, but changed my mind and chose the Omnia instead as it would be better for my needs. Its supposed to be the iPhone rival, Not sure about that cos I've never seen an iPhone up close, but it'll suit my needs just fine. |

It's too bad t-mobiles network kind of sucks where I live. Damn basturds though! We have Version, I hate it, but want a good phone. If we do change service, it will be Cingular (most favorite) and there is no way that I would ever waste my money on a silly iPhone and its ridiculous costs. |

What is funny, seems like Cingular will also benefit from this cell phone. When I used to have t-mobile (second favorite carrier) they used Cingular roaming ALL the time. Verizon has some decent phone too. |

Engadget has had a brief hands on and so far this is what they have had to say.
Update: We're adding another gallery as we speak. Here's some initial observations: the browser is much choppier than the iPhone's, there seem to be two separate mail apps, one for Gmail and a separate IMAP app, and there seems to be no multitouch functionality. ![]() But honestly, no 3.5mm headphone jack? What is funny, seems like Cingular will also benefit from this cell phone. When I used to have t-mobile (second favorite carrier) they used Cingular roaming ALL the time. |

Once you factor in the price of the phone and buy the card (the cheapest ones can be found for about $20) it would basically be the same price. This phone has much to offer that you guys are missing. This is the same thing that happens with every phone release also, people speculating on all the bad things vs the good. I'd hope you guys would with hold your judgement until you actually use one compared to the iphone. |

So the phone costs $179 for new customers / current customers who are able to get the upgrade discount. So take that, plus the $20 for a 8gig card (price taken from mutelight) and thats $200+tax, just like the iphone. I don't think you guys are thinking about the app store that is being created for it. It's not going to have any draconian controls setup for it like apple is doing with the app store for the iphone. It will be completely community controlled over whats good and whats bad by the star system. You won't have to cross your fingers and hope and pray that it will get rejected for some assanine reason like what apple is doing with tons of apps that get rejected by them all the time. Thats the big thing about it. There is also the removable battery (and i'm sure there will be a larger capacity one coming out for it soon, as with all htc phones) and the memory cards are removable. So you could have say 2 8gig cards on you if you wanted, and thats still cheaper then the 16gig iphone. While yes, you won't have access to both at the same time it's a trade off of having the ability to remove and switch out cards. Your not tied down to using only the programs apple says you can use in conjunction with your iphone either with the G1. |

While thats a good idea about a kill switch. There are alot of people (me included) that are leary about such a thing. Big company's have time and time again shown that they don't have the consumers intersests fully at heart. So i dunno if i could trust them with it. I could see google more so then then t-mobile as google doesn't have much at stake in terms of how apple does with the iphone. Would be better though to have an independent group in control of such a kill switch?
