That is where common misconceptions lie. The Samsung has closer to a 3,000:1 true contrast ratio so the Sony's dynamic contrast ratio would be 25,000:1. Both are rather close in that regard. Manufacturers have various different ways of measuring "contrast ratio" and I would highly recommend basing your decision on that.

With that said, I have a Samsung and Sony LCD both the same size, granted the Sony is newer but it smokes the Samsung in picture quality. The Samsung still has great image quality it just doesn't look as hot next to the Sony.
yeah the difference between static and dynamic contrast ratio right there, hell even knowing that each company measure it slight different then the other company, those numbers are really only useful for comparing tvs within the same company, other then that the best way is to go look at them.

The samsung i have picked out looks damn good, its the same price of a simlilar sony and looks just as good but the sonys in the model line i was looking at had a potential issues so im avoiding them this time around
