your guys close mindedness scares the **** out of me. i honestly did not know that so many people had their assholes so damn tight these days.

its music, you can not say it sucks just because you do not like it. it is all a matter of opinion, and ya so what if you do not like it. some of the smartest people i know listen to rap and yes also some of the dumbest. however it works both ways on that matter.

i know that none of you will change, just because of my post. but seriously, grow the **** up and just realize that because you do not like it or understand it does not make it 'crap.' and further more, who the **** judges someone on the music the listen too. you all sound like my grandpa who thought that black and whites SHOULD have different water fountains.

meh
Not really but the actual problem is elitism. Everyone usually is either a casual music listener who listens to anything that is popular and happens to hit their eardrums.
The rest are usually very genre specific listeners be it metal, rap, classic rock, dance etc. and think that their favourite genre is the elite, the best musical form out there.

I don't believe in genres because music has expanded beyond them and it's stupid to suggest that a certain piece of music is a certain kind when lines between genres and blurred out or totally removed. If you listen to any kind of music, go beyond what kind of music it is and actually try to critically appreciated then you can construct a valid opinion on the art.

The ever dumb art of creating sounds for the enthusiasm of people.

In lil' Wayne's defense...

The album has one worthwhile track.

"Mr Carter" with Jay-Z. If you are a Jay-Z fan, give it a listen

I am probably one of the only people here that has actually listened to the album, but, you are right. It is REALLY bad. "Lollipop" is not even the worst.

There is a song with Babyface on their that is SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. At least "Lollipop" makes ladies dance.

Fans are the problem. A fan can never really critically appreciate any music because their outlook is blinded by their fanaticism.

I love a lot of different musicians, bands and artists but I'm not a fan of any genre but rather a music fan. And even though I might love a band, I'm not going to automatically love every one of the albums released by the band.

I would have though the same thing if I listened to it 3 years ago and I'm not saying that all hip-hop/rap is good, hardly.

I think it's a pretty good track.

Go on flame me.

There is definitely a bias towards music on this forum. It's all about the guitars and metal etc etc. As soon as something like metal etc is said it's like "YEAH THEY'RE COOL!" if on the other hand, something like this is posted it's like "what the hell is this?!"

Don't get me wrong, I like my fair share of metal etc, but the majority of the time it just sounds like noise to me. That doesn't mean I don't hate rap either, some of it actually just annoys. Like Soulja boy....damn is one of the most annoying songs around but you can't deny that doing the Soulja boy dance in the club ****-faced isn't fun. lol.

Your social myopia and lack of culture is astounding.
I was giving my viewpoint of my local territory. Which has always been the section of the town that's like 80% white middle class, and 10% trailer, and 9% dirt poor. I was, more or less, ranting about annoying rich white kids in the areas I've lived in. Sorta like Malibu's Most Wanted.

I'm well aware that there's more to rap than just loud bass and sex. I just happen to dislike lollipop and think it sucks. Then again, many people would say the same about much of Jedi Mind Tricks' stuff.

I don't believe in genres because music has expanded beyond them and it's stupid to suggest that a certain piece of music is a certain kind when lines between genres and blurred out or totally removed. It helps to classify music by an overall sound that helps people find more music that fits their tastes. I'm willing to listen to anything, but just like every other human on this planet I have my own personal tastes and will like something better than another.

My wife gave me an odd look when she got into my car and Infected Mushroom was playing. Likewise I've done the same to her when she was listening to The Postal Service. Its like ice cream. Everyone has their flavor, and there's always a flavor that you're not going to like.

What would you suggest as an alternative method of helping people find other music they might like?

Ice cream is not an artform. Most peoples tastes in music stop them from enjoying music as a whole.

I listen to music regardless of what it is or by whom. I was just listening to Lil Wayne's album on my pc but in the car I had some "TV on the radio" and "Joy Division". Now I just put on Dillinger Escape Plan's latest album. Then I'm gonna take a rest and plan to drink some Vodka and Redbull while listening to "Hercules and the love affair".

how is not liking something that is indiscipherable being close minded. He obviously didn't have a very high opinion of his own lyrics to make them so hard to understand. How did this become a rap vs other music genre topic. I like rap and and some hip hop, and true, most of the rap i would like would be more the old school 80's early 90's rap, but be that as it may, this album is rubbish. I feel sorry for people who like current rap/hip hop if this album is considered ground breaking or worthy of any adulation what so ever. Hell, most the people who have come in and said they like current rap have said this album sucks, so what is your problem. This album isn't rap, imo it is nothing but thuggary.

The logic runs like this: If you hate a particular piece of art, you hate all of the art in that genre. Since you hate all of the art in that genre, you don't appreciate/understand art. Since you don't understand art, you can't comment on art. Your opinion doesn't count because you're closed minded because you hate art. Apparently if you have preferences or likes and dislikes you are closed minded. Of course you don't even have to hate a piece of art because if you don't like it you automatically hate it. Wait, what? Oh, never mind, I summarized it correctly.

That's all you got. All music is art period. You are just oblivious to the fact that art is not automatically great.

Its just not art.

Some moron blabbering on about how he shot some cop, slapped his bitches, and poured a 40 for his homies is not art, no way no how.

To be fair, I would probably agree with those points on things like death metal, etc; but that isn't the topic here.

I can say the same thing about every music genere there is so what? Name a band you like and I could come up with many reason to say why its some moron blabbering on about something stupid.
