Today is the 6th day since the bike wreck and I wake up at 4am, unable to sleep because the pain. I decided to stop taking the pain killers yesterday, but that must have been a mistake. Tuesday and Wednesday it seemed like everything was getting better, but Thursday it started to become painful again... and now, it's 6am on Friday and I'm up typing this.

Unless there's some kind of divine healing today, I doubt I'll get to go biking tomorrow. If I don't start seeing some improvement, I'll go back to the doctor this weekend.

They said i did not have a fractured rib, but this is just crazy.

Could be torn cartlige (sp?) between the ribs - doesn't show up on X-rays but hurts like a 'female dog' - tore some of mine badly, a while back, and it took a fair while to settle down.

Bruised ribs hurt a hell of a lot too, which is what it sounds like.

I went back to the doctor today to get checked out. The doctor was saying that I probably had bruised my ribs and the muscle. She was poking on me and it was pretty painful. They did not take more x-rays, though.

They said to come back in a week if it hasn't improved any and to keep taking the pain medication.

Best way to handle this is to have a close friend punch you in the ribs until it is broken....this way all uncertainty is out the window and you can then have it treated as a broken rib.

Default Hope I didn't break a rib...
Went mountain biking today. If you've seen my threads, I just got a new helmet too. Well, not sure the helmet helped today, but I was wearing it.

Riding along the path, there was a fallen tree blocking the way. No problem because there are fallen trees all over the place, but this one was on a curve and the ground was very soft. Somehow, i'm sure fatigue had something to do with it, I wrecked hard. Flew frontward over the handle bars and landed with my arm tucked under my body. It was a pretty hard hit and I've been feeling it since. The skinned knee doesn't bother me, but this weird pain on the left side of my chest has got me a little concerned.

It doesn't hurt to take a deep breath, but when I was finishing the ride, some of the obstacles were harder to navigate through without feeling a sharp-like pain on my left side... even when I picked the bike up to put it on the rack, it was feeling tender.

I am hoping I didn't fracture a rib or anything. This would seriously put a dent in my fitness schedule.

The helmet seems fine... there is a little scuff on the back, but I think that is from laying on the ground trying to catch my breath and make sure I wasn't broke.

The dude that was riding behind me was like "are you alright", immediately after I wrecked. I responded "I hope so".

If it continues to hurt and bruises up badly and hurts when you bleed, go see a doctor. If not, go just in case.

I've broken my ribs a couple of times while motorbike riding, it doesn't really sound like you have broken your ribs most likely bruised. When I broke my ribs I found that when I breathe it stings a little. I'd still probably get it checked out though.

Breathing wasn't a problem before, but now there is a slight dull pain when I exhale after a deep breath. I hiccuped a couple times and that hurt pretty bad. It also sometimes feels like the sharp pain goes straight through me and hurts in the same place on my back that it does in the front. If I push on my sternum, there is pain and just moving around kinda hurts.

By the time I finally decided to go see the doctor, they were closed. I'll wait until tomorrow and see how it feels. I don't think it's worth going to the emergency room at this time of night since as long as I sit still, it's not bad.

It's probably just a bruise anyway. The biggest thing is, I was planning on hitting the trails again tomorrow. We'll see how that works out.

Just got back from the doctor. After the X-rays, they said it did not look like I fractured anything. Last night, when going to bed though, I was convinced something was broke. I guess it's best nothing is broken, but it would have been cool to brag about.

I'm not going to be able to go riding today because it's quite painful, but maybe next weekend I'll be back to normal.

Funny thing is, as painful as it is, there is no sign of any bruising or anything.
