Yeah - all the employer had to do was google the questions in the questionaire verbatim & it would take him straight to that page.

Still... great to catch someone out like that lol!

And it's fair enough... if there's a job like that & there's something you don't know, what you do is figure it out for yourself / use any source at your disposal in order to find out.

I really like that the interviewer allowed them to go and research the questions at home. School gives the impression that you have to memorize everything and regurgitate it on command. The real world is nothing like that. Use of manuals and text books should always be encouraged.

Sure there are some things you should just know, but you shouldn't be scared into not asking for help or seeking the answer out through reasonable means (i.e., don't demand answers on a forum!)

You think there is a 100% chance that the teacher would stumble upon (hehe) Ubuntu forums out of ALL tech support and Linux forums (especially since there were questions referencing Red Hat, not Ubuntu)? I do not think so. Yeah - all the employer had to do was google the questions in the questionaire verbatim & it would take him straight to that page. Google does not work that way... try it. Google works using it's own indexes, it does not search every live web page for every piece of text.

That's epic. If I had a boss ask me questions that I didn't know I'd obviously google them, which is expected. Nobody knows everything all the time. Use your resources and find the answers. Google, manuals, forums, etc. But to make a forum post and ask all the questions verbatim instead of doing ANY research. I wouldn't hire him either.

The discussed thread was started a while ago and probably linked to all over the Internet (in conditions similar to this very thread you and I are posting in). Being as though the discussed thread had 320K views -with most of the views probably link-clicks- a web crawler would have easily picked it up.

I do not doubt it was indexed by now, just most likely not at the time the recruiter found it.

I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes of google, but it's pretty fast at catching mundane things.
