It's real. This clip is quite famous and has been around since the internet began!

the ball doesnt appear to fly normally That's due to spin.

The balls are also hollow I believe and suffer from wind resistance quite easily so there is kinda of a fast than slow effect when the guy hits the ball it starts off fast than is noticeably slower when it hits the table.

Than again I used to play tennis and table tennis so it was obvious to me. And its definitely real, when I went to camp me and a mate played table tennis to see how far away we can get away from the table and move around before clonking out. You have so much more control in table tennis than what you do in actual tennis.

If this was an actual tennis match than I'd be quite surprised.

No, it's just backspin and lots of it .

I thought that would only curve the ball whilst in the air. Though I only used that technique to bounce the ball on an angle on the opponents side making it more difficult for him to predict which direction the ball will bounce (its proven to be quite effective).

Really grippy rubber on a table tennis blade can generate masses of backspin - more than enough to generate the level of drag needed to slow the ball down through the air (plus it slows down even more after impact with the table). In the video in the first post of this thread, watch the player on the opposite side of the table to the camera at around 0:07 to 0:17 - each chop is aimed downwards to backspin the ball like mad, hence why his returns look so "floaty" .

I played at a competitive level when I was a kid (nothing serious though) and ran an occasional table tennis club when I was a teacher; sadly I've not played seriously for quite a few years now and I could certainly never play to a level where I could enter competitions anymore - the playing ability these days is amazing.

you really surprice me with your knowledge ...about a lot of things That's very kind of you but I suppose it's because I've had lots of different jobs throughout my life, so I've always had the chance to learn new things from people who've already been doing it for years.
