Default Pancake Syrup...
INGREDIENTS: CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, WATER, CELLULOSE GUM, CARAMEL COLOR, SALT, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), ARTIFICIAL AND NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE.

No wonder I can't stand the Aunt Jemima stuff. I grew up in a rural area. Fresh apple butter, cider, pick your own apples, etc. Maple syrup and fresh maple candies.

Anyone have any suggestions for quality maple syrup? My doctor suggested I eat mutli-grain waffles and pancakes for breakfast. I hate diets, but I'm willing to give it a try. No way in hell I'm going to eat waffles or pancakes dry though. No butter is fine by me, but no syrup? Blasphemy!

I haven't eaten pancakes since I was a child, and my most recent meal (multi-grain blueberry waffles) was a disaster with this nasty syrup. I DID find "Spring Tree" maple syrup at walmart. Its pretty good. But the stuff is l ike $5 for a little glass bottle. I wouldn't mind paying for good syrup though. You can get away with using a little if you use the good stuff.

Anyone know any other good brands to try? Or other good breakfast foods?

I think the main problem is you're shopping at walmart for your food. Do you have a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, or Jimbo's anywhere near you? Can't say I know of any specific brand, but the maple syrups I get have something along the lines of maple syrup as the ingredient.

Have you tried any jams or preserves? Personally I also like loganberries. Though I don't know if fruit could mask the nastiness of a multigrain pancake

Yup. Pancakes. I learned something new as well. Apparently they keep really well in the freezer. She makes hers up over the weekend for the entire week. First time I'd ever heard of people freezing pancakes.. but then again I was never a really big pancake fan. I normally don't like them, but with the right syrup they're edible.

Ham&Cheese English Muffin, Pancakes, and a few other suggestions that sounded like more work. But I've been doing the muffin thing for a couple months. I can't eat any more of those damned things. I might try doing cereal if I can score myself a spot in the work fridge for milk. She wants me to drink 4 cups of skin per day. Found out I like skim milk too. Walmart sells this sugar free chai latte mix you mix with milk. It awesome! So for breakfast I have 2 glasses of chai milk stuff, and 2 pancakes or waffles.

But if I'm gonna eat pancakes, it has to be good syrup. The jemima and other mainstream brands taste like crap. I don't really like pancakes too much to begin with... but when you put that crap on them UGH. Maybe I'll eat waffles instead. Those EGGO multi-grain waffles are good.

Our town consists of: Walmart, Marsh (really ghetto marsh), Save-a-Lot, and Pick'n'Save. So yeah.. walmart really is the best we have.

This Spring Tree stuff is pure maple syrup. Its not bad. Might be better if I tried eating once I was fully awake. I spent the past 24 years of my life not eating breakfast, so its kinda weird getting used to eating in the morning. Sometimes when I eat while I'm still half asleep things don't taste right.

Maybe I'll have to order some off the interwebs.

I'm sorry but I can't possibly understand why a doctor would recommend pancakes for breakfast. Even a shortstack will contain hundreds of calories, and while real pancake syrup does not contain any preservatives, it's loaded with sugar. Why not just eat some Total cereal?

Yeah why not just eat some gold old fashion cereal. Raisin Bran! or if you dont like that. Raisin Bran Crunch. It's a million times better.

And throw in some fruit like strawberries or blueberries! You could even have some egg whites with them. Man, I wish I had a maid that made me a good breakfast. There's nothing like starting the day off with a great meal. Maybe I'll move back in with my mom...

I use Log Cabin 100% maple syrup grade A dark amber from Sam's Club.

Not me! LOL! I just put down a healthy choice. I've never actually had plain egg whites but I did once have a roommate that mixed the egg whites with regular eggs.

And does she know you plan to smother them in maple syrup?

Odd, very odd.

Yeah this isn't going to help you at all.

The only way to lose weight is to eat less pretty much, if it wasnt we would all be slim

She was totally serious. I don't like my stuff drenched, just enough to give it some flavor.

2 waffles with syrup is around 200-220 calories depending on how much syrup I use (I eat the eggo nutri-grain blueberry waffles. They're yummy). A bowl of cornflakes would be about 180 depending on how much milk I used. 1 waffle has 90 calories. 1 pancake has 80 calories. 1 cup of cereal has 100 calories.

I guess if I was making 3 or 4 giant pancakes and drenching them in syrup it would be bad.

If I have 2 waffles and 2 cups of milk for breakfast that would be about 400 calories. A 6" Sub for lunch and 2 cups of milk would be around 530. Supper is the other half of my footlong, with a glass of water or a coke zero. 350 calories. My dietician suggested 2250 or less calories. I obviously have some snacks. Usually a jack link's beef steak, or some fruit. Then I munch on sugar free popsicles.

I've never had a doctor ever agree on milk. As a child I was told I was fat because I drank milk (by a couple different doctors)... so I didn't drink milk regularly for 10 years. Yet recently I've had doctors suggest between 2-4 cups of fat free milk per day.

Anything has got to be better than my old eating habits. I was raised by fat people to ALWAYS finish what's on my plate, and to always spend wisely. Old habits are hard to break. It pains me to buy something healthy when I see a sale on something unhealthy that is more for less. I must be part woman. I picked up their shopping instincts or something.

Yeah this isn't going to help you at all.

I assure you that I am definitely eating less. :P I didn't get to 300 pounds by making healthy choices. I bargain shopped. I could get a 1500 calorie meal for less than the cost of what I'm eating now. So far its worked. I went from gaining weight to losing weight.

The one thing odd was my LDL. Even with my horrible eating habits it was a 26... Cholesterol was quite low too. Guess I'm lucky, and we'll chalk that up to being young.

I used to make maple syrup with my Grandfather when I was a kid. It was hard long work, but it was worth it. Best tasting syrup I have ever had. Too bad maple syrup almost always results in a migraine for me.

Try something else then, honey is far more healthy than maple syrup. Or simply try adding fruit for natural sugar, like put blue berries in the mix. You should really be eating more fruit anyway.

Do not go using jam though, it's added full of sugar's.

BTW Coke Zero is NOT GOOD. Soda drinks contribute to obesity as much as anything else, and Coke Zero is not any better, if anything its worse as the substatutes are linked with cancer.

You would be far better of drinking milk over Coke Zero, your bones and teeth will thank you as well.

The Sodium Benzoate in Soda (such as coke zero) has been linked to DNA damage in kids. Yet, people consume the hell out of what is possibly one of the worst foods you can put into your body.
