Default Where's the best place to get a replacement SkyBox... quickly!
Hi guys,

My SkyBox has decided to die whilst watching Euro 2008!
TBH the box was over 10 years old too, so I'm surprised it lasted this long.

Anyways, I need to buy a replacement asap.

1) Where's the best place to buy one? Should I call Sky? eBay? Do stores like Currys/comet sell them on their own?

2) If I buy one independant of Sky itself - will it affect my subscription? In fact will my Sky Card work in the new machine. Or are Sky sneaky and "register" cards with specific machines?

Cheers

P.S. It's a regular Sky Box... NOT Sky Plus or HD

Nobody?

Phoned up Sky, who quoted £149 or £99 if I go for SkyTalk/Broadband or MultiRoom.
LOL... I don't think so.

Any ideas?
Local AV shop? eBay?

I's prefer it if somewhere like Currys/Dixons/Comet sold them, but I cant find any standalone boxes for sale on their website.

Any reputable online stores to recommend?

I'd use the opportunity to upgrade to Sky+. It's totally worth it. [thumbup]

Viewing cards are registered to a specific Sky box, but I assume if you bought a new one you could just ring up Sky and tell them.

Nah it's definately the box. We have a dual LNB setup, ie one SkyBox setup in the Large living room (where my parents tend to sit and watch their foreign subscription channels), and another SkyBox setup in the Family room, where my brothers and myself hang out, etc.

My folks have a PACE DS-430n and our Panasonic TU-DSB30, which has died.

I've swapped them over - the PACE works fine in both rooms.
The Panasonic does not work in either room.

It just stays on Standby. I can't power it up using either remote or using the button on the machine.
I've left it off for 3-4 hours and turned it back on - no joy.

So I've resigned myself to a replacement.

Thing is that all the latest DigiBoxes seem to be getting very poor reviews, especially if you are in an area with a weak signal. Ours fortunately is fairly good.

But a lot of the AV specialist forums seem to be raving about the PACE DS-430n and even it's predecessor the 2600C1 despite them being a good number of years older.

I reckon I'll pop onto eBay and pick the PACE DS-430N, as it seems to be getting a good thumbs up from people in the know and the fact that we have one already and not exhibiting any issues is reassuring.
