Fire is just a discovery so I'm going to go with:

Means of generating electricity as the best, and the worst would have to be religion.

EDIT: Actually, I can't say religion is the worst because without religion we wouldn't be where we are now. Religion really pushed progress IMO.

If you think about it actually held back progress imo.. With all their morals and such, but good chances are we wouldnt be alive to a degree w/o them.

i don't believe religion and morality is the same thing.

religion is being made responsible for too many things, things that is really just part of human culture. ethnic violence occurs, it not about the religion. people doing charity work, it not about the religion. people do thing because they feel like it, they should stop making religion responsible just so they can feel less responsible and in control.

will people not oppose cloning if they are not christian? i don't think so. people will have they morality and upbringing, it more to do with the parenting than religion. that is my opinion of it anyway.

I'm not thinking recent history, I'm thinking the past history. The crusades and events like that. Without those events people wouldn't have been spurred on to work with each other or to invent. Just look at books. Without the bible, mass production of books would have been stalled. Education. Without religion a lot of teachings wouldn't have been taught. Look at reading. Sure, the Catholics at first kept it for themselves and only taught other religious people like monks, but it eventually did carry on to the general public.

I'm not saying those events throughout history were good at the time, but they later lead the way for human technological evolution.

Without drugs (and yes, even Aspirin is a drug) we would still be fighting the plage and whatnot. Having that said alot of "Illegal" drugs aren´t "made" by man,..
