Ruffle. [thumbup]

On a side note, is this your first bird? Ringnecks are absolutely gorgeous birds, and very very intelligent. I come from an exotic bird background (both my grandfather and my uncle) so I've spent my life around everything from Budgies to Hyacinth Macaws.

I've been looking to get either an African Grey or a Hans Macaw, just need the spare cash.

Btw, he's a beautiful bird. Hand reared I assume? How old is he, it's hard to tell from the eyes in that pic? He must be young still because there is no sign of a ring yet and the eyes are still dark.

EDIT: I had a budgie when I was younger that I reared from an Egg and he was called Clumsy for obvious reasons. Got himself stuck in his ladder, fell down the back of my radiator and had to be popped out with a broom handle. He loved the PC, used to chase the cursor and push the mouse around while watching the cursor move. And he couldn't get enough of stealing crisps from my mouth, he'd just fly over and jam his head in my mouth, take what he wanted and fly back to the PC to watch the screen and eat his prize!

Lol my budgie is learning to speak my language (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian). He says the equivalent to good morning, every morning and sometimes says (not in english) "you smell bad" and in english "give kisses" and then smack smack smack smack hahahah.

Obviously the vocal chords arent as good as ours so it sounds funny but you can make it out.

There's some pressure here to call him Ruffle. Both because birds do indeed ruffle their feathers and because it's cute, and maybe to a lesser extent because Ruffles are delicious! I happen to like Ruffle a lot but I'm still interested in hearing quality suggestions from the community. Not a huge fan of people names for pets, by the way.

He is not my first bird but he will be my first in a long time. Previously, I've only had budgies. This is definitely a step up in terms of intelligence and required care but I'm really looking forward to it. Despite being classified as a parakeet, this is a real parrot and it's not at all like a budgie except maybe equally tenacious and bossy!

He was born in late January. I forget the hatch date, but he's very young indeed. Hand fed, socialized, fully fledged and soon to be fully weaned. The ring won't start to show until he's 18-24 months.

Keep in mind what i said about keeping only one.
Some parrots will engage in bizarre behaviors and even self mutilate if kept alone, early symptoms being a form of hospitalism, where the bird starts making the same movements over and over again.
Do the bird a favor and get a second one from the beginning.

I believe this is purely on a bird for bird basis, and not a rule to be applied to all domesticated birds. I know of many many single birds which thrive on their own. Enjoying their own company and the company of their owners far more than any other bird to bird interaction.

Whilst I admit your post has some truth in it, I do think it would be too early to tell whether Inept's bird would need a partner.
