Default Need help with an essay...
well, I need to talk about this quote :

"Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America"

Now I need 3 topics about this quote I can talk about....biggest thing about terrorism....I guess I can spend one body paragraph talking about how it didnt shake the coutries confidence since thats what terrorists try to do, so really 2 more things that relate to the quote that I can write about.

its waaaay cheesy. That is where i would start.

1) Talk about what a cheesy statement it is.
2) Ponder what was going through the speechwriters head when he had the eureka moment and came up with the line
3) Ponder what was going through the politicians head when he made his final decision that that line would move his audience if he just emphasised the correct words and showed his face of strength.

lol, gl

Cheesiness aside, here's a quick thought:

1) Talk about terrorism in general and then link it to recent terrorist attacks involving the USA (Oklahoma City, USS Cole, WTC '93 and '01)
2) Define what exactly the "foundation of America" is
3) Explain why terrorism cannot "shake the foundation" based on your definition in paragraph two, using the war on terror as an example

I'm sure it could be better, but meh, for two minutes of thought I think it could get you started! [thumbup]

That was wondering I guess it could be considered things like the constitution but how would terrorist shake that? Or perhaps it's the values that Americans hold. I wonder if that's what he really meant the American people. Yeah it wasn't a very well thought out quote I bet it could have been said better without the attempt at a punchy sound bite.

I wrote an essay once when I was in Spanish class. Got busted for writing notes.

You'll need to clearly define the "foundation of America". I assume you're presenting only your side, and not arguing your own points. It might be rough, because in many ways terrorism HAS changed America. We detain every tan skinned person at airports. America is overall more racist towards people of middle eastern descent.

America is founded on freedom. We've lost a TON of that in the war on terrorism. The 911 attacks have had a HUGE impact on America. Reading through the mail, warrantless wire tapping. Pretty much every value and right that American's take pride in has been violeted by our government in response to terrorism.

Honestly, the best advice I can offer, is change your topic.

Rainwind might have a good point. If I have a topic that has two sides which can be argued I always take the easier one even if I disagree with it
