Well, dream over, she's just come home from work and said no way, she don't want to leave England, I know she has a choice and all but it was her that started all this, if it wasn't for my daughter I'd have gone anyway.

I guess I'll kepp working on it just in case she changes her mind

[yes]

She's just having a panic attack. It's a big move so you really couldn't blame anyone. I don't know if I could move country. The fact remains I like in the country I'm in, so I'm gathering that might be a good reason why I don't dream about moving elsewhere.

That's a shame mate, although it is very England of her i have to say. I know plenty of Brits who wouldn't move from England, maybe an unfair stereotype, but it felt a lot like that when i was living back over there. A lot of folks seemed happy just drinking the time away at the local with no real ambition to do anything else.

As for people saying that where they are living would be the best, i don't think thats true. I've lived in 3 major cities around Aus and while i'm currently in Sydney, i would still recommend adelaide over anywhere else.

ACE, i used to live near Woodcroft when i was growing up (Reynella East to be precise!) and it is quite a nice suburban area, a few dodgey area's near it like Lonsdale (and further away Christies beach) but it is a nice area for a young family. Not sure of property prices but i would say there would be a few reasonably priced properties around the place. Sheidow park will also be worth taking a look at.

If you havent already, check out www.whereis.com.au and plug in Woodcroft and SA, will give you an idea of where the suburb is in relation to everything else inc. City etc...

Good idea to rent for awhile first before you look to purchase, give you time to scope out the surrounding areas etc... also good that you already have someone there who would know the place!

Anyways, keep working on the missus, she'll come round eventually [thumbup]

Also you don't really need to live in the same suburb as your family. Adelaide is known as the 20 minute city. It doesn't take too long to drive to places. Even if you were to move closer to the city it wouldn't take long to drive to family.

_Cubase_

I was offering an opinion of someone who grew up in Canberra. This is what the question is isn't it? What's Australia like? I provided a resident's view of Canberra.

Who else is better qualified? It's my hometown, and I would know if it's a hole or not.

Boring has been used alot about Canberra. Question is how? It has a great nightlife, shops, restaurent's, wildlife, art's, sport's etc.

What else do you want? Of course it's subjective. Just as you found it boring, I find Sydney to be really dirty and the air is filthy (you can even see the pollution staining the paint on the buliding's).

Would I live in Sydney? Sure, but not in some area's, just like I wouldn't live in some area's of Canberra. Actually that's a good point, where did you stay in Canberra? I grew up in the inner suburb's, Ainslie and Braddon, 10 mins walk from the city center.
Hey man, its cool, I wasn't paying out on your or anything. [yes]

Most of the parts I stayed in Canberra were around town, not too far out.

If she's not convinced, then tkae a short holiday here with here and check it out.

I am not bulshitting you when I say that of all the friends I know who have come here from the UK on either a holiday or to live, have said they would never want to go back... warm weather, awesome beaches, cheap food and great watering holes.

What more could you want?

Anyway, good luck with your girl... as I said, take a holiday here with her, and it might help her decide.

Yep. Just remember a very important rule. For every $100 you got make sure you add $20 to it, you never know how much something is going to cost.

Every time I buy something I make sure I got more than enough money. Usually around 10-20% more.-

Lived in London for 2 years, and lived in South Africa for all my life then moved to Perth. It's a very relaxed place for the most part. Finding decent property at a reasonable price can be an issue as last I heard, Perth property prices were only below that of Sydney.

Other than that.. best place in the world. Best thing you can do is come for a holiday before committing to any major decisions. Then you can decide if its right for you.

Not really helping here, but I feel like saying something. A friend is moving to Aus, on a year long visa, starting in June. Going to Melbourne. Good news is, me and another are holidaying with him, for nearly 3 weeks. Can't wait

If there is some doubt, then I would also back the holiday idea.

I can understand the desire to leave england as i live on a council estate in the midlands.
Sometimes the grass isnt always greener i know a few people who have moved to spain to live only to come back but thats spain.
Seems more and more people are wanting to live the UK.

Ive always wonderd what my life might be like if my family didnt come back to england from Botswana where i was born, everyone has great memmories from living there and Zimbabwe but i wasnt born then.

Probably not the most tasteful joke.

As Cubase has posted before, his GF is Asian and his mum gives him hell about it.

Oh, I had no idea about that. Real sorry _Cubase_. I have a few Asian friends and I tend to like having jokes with them. I guess some people take it more seriously than others. I should really start watching what I say on these forums. Please do accept my apologies, Scoobs has warned me also.

Its cool, if I had of known (I don't usually read every post on the forums) I wouldn't of said it. But than again it was stupid of me saying it in the first place. But I wouldn't care what anyone says, so long as your happy, thats what matter[thumbup][yes]
